On June 9, 2018, according to the official FB of the navy of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Navy has already purchased two Type 053H3 second-hand frigates from China. These two vessels were the 521 Jiaxing frigate and the 522 Lianyungang frigate, planned for this year. To be delivered to the Bangladesh Navy in September or October.

The 053H3 frigate is a second-generation fully enclosed guided missile frigate designed and built in the 1990s in China. The first ship of the frigate, the Jiaxing, started construction in 1997. It was launched in 1998 and officially joined the Chinese Navy in 1999.

The 521 Jiaxing frigate was developed on the basis of the 053H2G frigates (Jiangwei Class I) and replaced the Hongqi-61 air-defense missile (HQ-61B) with the Haihongqi-7 ship-to-air missile (HHQ-7). More efficient anti-aircraft firepower, in particular, improved defense capabilities against the sea-skipping anti-ship missiles, while maintaining the original sea-to-sea and submarine attack capabilities. The ship is also equipped with a new stealth shape dual-mounted 100mm automatic naval gun and Eagle-82 anti-ship missile, is a type of attack-defense balanced missile frigate.
The 521 Jiaxing frigate was built by the Shanghai Hudong Shipyard in 1997. It was launched in June 1998 and served in the East China Sea Fleet of the Chinese Navy in June 1999.

The frigate was built altogether, with a total number of 10 ships, the last 528 “Mianyang Ship” also joined the Chinese Navy in 2004!

The 053H3 frigates may now seem to be lagging behind. The full-load displacement is 2,400 tons, and the maximum speed is 26.5 knots. There are two four-ship 8-ship anti-ship missiles and 16 Hongqi-7 anti-aircraft missiles on board the ship's missile installations. Missiles, radar devices, and so on, are all behind the current Chinese Navy's main frigate in the Type 054A frigates.
The 053H3 frigate is still a very powerful warship for the country.

After entering the 21st century, especially 10 years later, the Chinese navy has developed rapidly and the speed at which weapons and equipment are replaced is exciting. However, a problem has arisen. That is, there are too many new warships and many sailors on old warships need to be deployed to carry out new missions. On the service of the warships, there was a shortage of old warships sailors.

The 053H3 frigates (English: Type 053H3 Frigate, NATO code: Jiangwei IIClass Frigate) are the second generation of fully enclosed missile frigate designed and constructed in China in the 1990s.
This type of ship was developed on the basis of the 053H2G frigates (Jiangwei Class I) and replaced the Hongqi-61 air-defense missile (HQ-61B) with the Hai Hongqi-7 ship-to-air missile (HHQ-7), which is better than the previous model 053H2G. More efficient anti-aircraft firepower, in particular, improved the defense capability of the anti-ship missiles that swept the sea, while maintaining the original ability to defend against the sea and the submarine. Type 053H3 is a type of offensive and defensive balanced frigate.

The first ship of the 053H3 frigates, the Jiaxing, was started construction in 1997, launched in June 1998, and served in the East China Sea Fleet in June 1999. This type of ship built a total of 10.

1) The first ship of the 053H3 frigates, Jiaxing Ship No. 521, was started in Shanghai Hudong Shipyard in 1996 and launched in December 1997. As the largest domestic frigate project of the People's Liberation Army Navy in the 1990s, a total of 10 Type 053H3-type launches were built during the past few years.
2) The modified No. 2 Ship No. 522 Lianyungang was started construction in Hudong Shipyard in 1997, launched in 1998, and officially served in the East China Sea Fleet in December 1998.

The second-hand frigate fleet itself is very cheap, and the main expenses are concentrated on newly installed weapons, radar, communications, and fire control systems. There is no exact data on specific costs, but it is certainly cheap.

In 1989, the Bangladeshi navy received a second-hand frigates from the Chinese Navy, the Model 053H1 "Jianghu II" Xiangtan (container No. 556), which was renamed the F18 "Osman" after joining the Bangladeshi navy. The re-purchased Chinese Navy Type 053H2 second-hand frigates replaced the former naval vessels of Bangladesh with the same name as the battleship, and the latter was the British Navy's Type 41 "Leopard" used frigates built in the mid-1950s." The Bobcats and Jaguars began serving in the Bangladeshi Navy from 1982 and 1978 respectively. On January 22, 2014, the two Type 41 frigates held a ceremony in Chittagong and officially retired from the Bangladeshi Navy.

Two types of 053H1 frigates, the Anshun (Shuhao 554) and Jishou (Shuyhao 557), which were retired by the Chinese Navy in 2012, were resold to Myanmar.

What upgrades will there ship get before joining Bangladeshi Navy

Seems like a smart upgrade bargin deal
Make the best out of your limited bucks.

I waiting for some brainless comment that will claim why Bangladesh didnt go for Ford class CVN carrier or Daring class destroyer or Alreigh Burke destroyer instead go for Chinese crap warship? Then they will claimed money drop from the sky and Bangladesh can print unlimited money or even claimed Bangladesh is world top economy of USD 30 trillion and with defence budget of USD 3 trillion annually. :enjoy:

I still remember the thread clearly about Bangladesh Navy going to refurbished Type035G submarines. Stupid idiot members will make comment about why Bangladesh never go for German Type 214 AIP submarine but instead the crap Chinese second hand submarines , talking as if they can print money out of nowhere. I expect the same thing happen in this thread.

So after addition of these two beasts what is size of Bangladeshi Navy. I mean How many Frigates and Corvettes

100-120 million per ship i guess..o_Oo_O
waist of money if that's the price the could've gone with two o56 more advanced ships than these two which have been twenty years in service they even didn't cost china less than this amount when they built

That means the warship body only cost almost nothing!
Considering the newly developped 055 cost 1 billion usd each!

Can a naval vessel be directly used by the Bangladesh Navy without upgrading and transformation?
Your question is stupid.

Russia could not build warships on its own. The United States refused to sell because of India’s opposition to BD and was expensive for sure.

The British construction capability was also not enough. We must know that Type 41 was built in 1950 (if I did not build it).
The Chinese Navy did not want to retire those 053 frigates at the first place. It was only because the Chinese 054A, 055 and the second aircraft carrier were due to serve soon. The Chinese Navy’s experienced technicians were in short supply, so that the 20-year-old warships need to be retired. Otherwise, I'm afraid that Bangladesh wants to buy it, and PLA may not want to sell it.

India’s purchase of a UAV from the United States costs 100 millions U.S. dollars, and China’s one Rainbow 5 can be obtained with a price of 5 to 8 millions U.S. dollars. Rainbow 5 combat capability can reach 90% of the Global Hawk.
If you are a military decision maker, which one do you buy?

The Iraqi Air Force recently used Chinese-made Rainbow 4 drone and obtained a 100% attack success rate(260 airstrikes).

How is these ship waste of money? It has a bigger tonnage that translate to bigger loiter range, firepower. It even house a hangar which can accomodate a helo permanently. 056 is more suit for nearby water but not so much when into ocean. These 053H with right radar and combat system upgrade can suit its purpose in modern naval warfare.

I meant with that price tag 100-120 without upgrading them now if you want to upgrade you have to add the same amount of money to make them lethal that bring the total cost to a quarter billion since new radars and other systems like ciws that's what I meant.
