Dhaka, Dec 22 (UNB) – Reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to an independent Palestine state, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Bangladesh will continue to support the cause of Palestine and always stand by its people.

She made the remarks when Grand Mufti of Al Aqsa Mosque and State of Palestine Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Hossain met her at her official residence Ganobhaban.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Underlining the need for unity among the Muslim Ummah, the Prime Minister said if any conflict arises among them, this can be resolved through discussions.

She also recalled her meeting with late leader of Palestine Liberation Organization Yasser Arafat during a summit in Tunisia.

Mentioning that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur laid the foundation of the relations between the two brotherly countries, Hasina said, “We continue our support to Palestine following his footsteps."

She mentioned Bangabandhu's deep attachment with Yasser Arafat and his firm solidarity with the Palestinian brothers and their legitimate aspirations for an independent Palestine.

The Grand Mufti expressed satisfaction over the existing relations between Palestine and Bangladesh and described Bangladesh as their second home.

He also termed Bangabandhu as a ‘great man’.

Highly appreciating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership, Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed expressed the belief that she will complete the unfinished tasks of Bangabandhu.

He said every Palestine feels that Bangladesh strongly supports Palestine. "Not only our President, but also all the people of Palestine invite you to visit Palestine," he said addressing the Prime Minister.

The Grand Mufti invited Sheikh Hasina to attend a conference with the theme - "Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine".

He also conducted a munajat seeking continued success of the Prime Minister and the people of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed presented a scarf inscribed with the word, 'Palestine', to Sheikh Hasina.

PM's Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam, PM's Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef SY Ramadan were present on the occasion.

This is not only about Ummah. Palestine is an issue which defy our sense of morality and notion of justice. Every human being, muslim or non-muslim should empathise with the Palestinians.
Hasina will use this to gain Mullah votes. BNP would do same if they were in power. These Palestine support and solidarity campaigns accomplish nothing on the ground. Only done for politics.

But muslim countries legitimizing Israel and abandoning Palestinian cause will put Palestinians even more precarious position. Global support is the only things remained for the Palestinians.

doesn't Kashmir defy your sense of morality and notion of justice? never heard of any such remark on Kashmir by hasina..your country has played role in distributing ummah instead of uniting by doing dirty planning with hindus so don't tell jokes plzz.

Best solution for the Kashmiri would be wide autonomy within Indian union. Independent Kashmir is not viable. It has to depend on either India or Pakistan for survival. Which make independence worthless. But before Kashmir gaining autonomy, Pakistan have to stop trying to create trouble in Indian held Kashmir. Kashmiri muslim has no appetite to join Pakistan. Pakistan also has no love for Kashmiris. Pakistan only want to capture Kashmir for strategic reasons. And the old partition logic of 'Muslim region should be part of Pakistan' is no longer valid after post 1971 realities.

So, 'autonomous republic of Kashmir' within India is the best outcome for the common Kashmiri muslims. I think, kashmiri have better chance to achieve that if Pakistan abandon it's policy to destabilize Kashmir by infiltration and capture Kashmir from India by force. It is no way helping the Kashmiri people rather harming them.

Kashmir would be much better without you guys crating problems there.
Not to mention Kasmiris(in IOK) are full Indian citizens so equating them with Palestine doesn't make much sense.

I think the best solution would be complete withdrawal of both Indian and Pakistani forces from the entire Kashmiri territory (Jammu and Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan) and place it under UN mandate with the UN peacekeeping forces responsible for its security. Meanwhile a plebiscite would be held in Kashmir to allow them a right to self-determination. Whatever the Kashmiris decide will define their fate.

If they decide to become an independent state then the UN peacekeeping forces would remain there for a specific period (5 years) to ensure stability, training of military and civilian officials and peaceful formation of government and transition of power. Meanwhile, some well-known NGOs like BRAC would be in charge of social and economic development of the people.

Yes, it is the ideal solution. But the problem is, both countries will not allow this which may cause slipping away Kashmir territory from their grips. Only viable solution I can foresee is , Kashmiri gaining wide autonomy within Indian union after de-escalating the military stand-off there. For that to happen, both India and Pakistan has to recognize the portion of Kashmir they held as their. Then a mutual, gradual troops withdrawal have to happen and India will bestow Kashmir wide autonomy. In that way, Kashmiri will get a degree of freedom, autonomy and most importantly peace, security and normal life free from overbearing Indian military presence. While India's crucial demand, the territorial integrity will also get preserved.

They hate calling themselves as Indian when you even don't have information of that so stop giving your opinion on issue of Kashmir.

Kashmiris have more bone to act like autonomous country then Bangladesh. They will not present themselves as Indian b!tch. Kashmiri love Pakistan and vice versa. They celebrate Eid with us and Pakistan cricket team victory over India and Bangladesh. Before giving Kashmir any advice about infiltration Bangladeshi should look on themselves because they acted has puppet of Indians in East Pakistan. Kashmiris have self supported there cause of Kashmir even after 2007 when everyone know Pakistan support has gone gradually down. May Allah win victory to palestinians and Kashmir.
