No thanks. India will continue to buy Chinese TBM next time.

Why thank china for something which we paid money for ? In that case Europe should thank india for supplying covishield vaccines although they gave india money for it

India just built it's first tbm

One has to admit that Chinese TBMs are more or less similar to German and Japanese TBMs while costing a lot less.

Modi would not approve buying of Chinese TBMs if he could avoid it. But State and Center project planners in India did approve.

German and Japanese TBMs are not cost-effective for Indian (or any) civil engg. projects anymore. Cost is beyond practicality.

Let's not bring in narrow geopolitics into this. Project planners in India saw the light and used Chinese TBMs.

And Indian TBMs are still unproven, which may get better eventually. Chinese TBMs are the best option right now.

Karnaphuli Tunnel under the river of the same name, was built in 3 years (ETA Dec. 2022) using a Chinese TBM.

Here is an early story on the tunnel,

Here is an early story on the tunnel,

China's tunnel boring machines are exported to the world. Not just India and Bangladesh.

"In most Indian cities, the TBMs procured are from China or Europe. Of the 19 tunnel boring machines being used to dig underground tunnels in Mumbai for major infrastructure projects, eight have been manufactured by Chinese-owned companies, while 11 are by Western companies, but manufactured in China."

"The global TBM market is at present dominated by China. As per vendors, nearly 90 per cent of the TBMs deployed across India have a Chinese connection. China has a dominating presence in the heavy equipment machinery segment, and officials claim it is not possible to replace the sources of these types of equipment overnight.

With Indian firms like BHEL and BEMP still in early stages of producing TBMs, the need to procure the machines from outside India will continue for quite some time."

So much for Hindutva Puffery and Chest-beating.

@GreatHanWarrior are these people blind or what ?

Typical fartjammer response when he can’t answer a question :disagree:

Why do you not check your sources before engaging in chest beating? So you don't affect your credibility?

Just because Indian companies put out brochure language that they CAN make tunnel borers, does not make it true.

This is aspirational talk. There are a lot of technicalities that go into making tunnel borers, and all of these technologies are sourced from outside India. As always.

India is not in the same stage of engineering development as China is.

Jumping up and down all day and yelling will not change this.

Don't expect too much. Last time, because Chinese engineers didn't get visas. They don't even know how to use TBM.

Let them shoot themselves in the foot.

This Modi govt. will keep dragging India to the bottom by illogical decisions.

What's wrong with giving a few civilian people visa's ? I mean - Indians already bought the damn equipment....

Boggles the mind....
