Social media mixed response on one "nail house" which stops $5.5 Bln government major project

江苏最牛钉子户,扬言没有两亿绝不搬走,逼停国家380亿高铁项目 A "nail house" refuses to move resulting in the halt of the $5.5 Bln government major project, Huzhou to Shanghai high speed railway construction. The nail house family has 3 people, mother, son and daughter .

The family asks for 200 million yuan ( $30 million) and claims that they won't move even if one less penny of the asked amount is paid.

Many on Chinese social media condemn this "nail house", saying each day of the halt will cost the government tens of thousands if not millions, others argue that for a single mother , she's only trying to secure a better life for the whole family

The halted high speed railway, from Huzhou to Shanghai, investment of 30 billion yuan ( $5.5 billion)

A rural village house in the middle of nowhere asking for $30 million? The family should count lucky if the house is worth $300,000

Just build the road on top of the house, let them suffer. Too much human greed.

This is insane!!!

I don't know what to say to this woman.

If I were her, I would ask for USD 30 billion instead.

To secure my future prosperity.

A "nail house" holds its ground for 10 years in Jiangsu province, now the house is occupying one of the best piece or estate in the city, millions of netizens in China say they are envious of this family.

China needs US imminent domain laws.

Like in China it only works in areas where people are easy pushovers otherwise you get stopped cold in your tracks.

Federal highway construction stopped cold by Boston metro residents. New highway forced to use an old curved road that already existed as EVERYBODY refused to give up any of their land for the new highway.

Then why "nail houses" are everywhere in China, "nail house" is actually a Chinese word itself.

Then what "eminent domain‘’ for?

Great chinese government caring for the voice of the common folk!

For things like building the US highway and railway system.
They eminent domained thousands of miles of land for the highways.

However the government has to prove your property is an absolute necessity and has to be purchased (ie it can't be re-routed).

If you see the road systems they are not perfectly straight. They may adjust over to the left or right around properties that were not considered "crucial".

When they got to the Metro Boston area in the 1960's they were up against some of the oldest and most developed property in the US owned by 100's of thousands of wealthier-than-average people who could not be easily bought off. They had the financial resources to put up a huge legal fight encompassing everybody in the area.

This proved to be a gargantuan nail.

The government instead paid to improve a road system already used by the locals that circled around the Boston Metro area.

This was not the only nail story.
