Arab troops must be deployed to Syria, Qatar Emir says

Shaikh Hamad is the first Arab leader to publicly suggest foreign intervention in Syria

Arab troops should be deployed to Syria to stop the killing there, Qatar’s Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani has told in an interview to US broadcaster CBS.

To a question whether he favoured Arab nations intervening in Syria, Shaikh Hamad said on Friday, “For such a situation to stop the killing...some troops should go to stop the killing.”

Shaikh Hamad is the first Arab leader to publicly suggest foreign intervention in Syria, where the uprising against President Bashar Al Assad is now in its tenth month.

Speaking about his own influence on the uprisings in the Arab world, he said: “We are supporting the people of those countries ... [who are] asking for justice and dignity.

Qatar Emir’s comments in a programme “60 Minutes” to be broadcast on Sunday came even as 28 people were killed on Friday in a crackdown by government forces against pro-democracy protesters across Syria, according to opposition activists.

The dead included children aged between 11 and 14, killed during a protest in the area of Hayeth, near the restive province of Hama, added the opposition.
More than 5,000 people, including at least 200 children, have been killed in the Syrian government’s crackdown on protests since they started in March, according to the United Nations.

In Washington, senior US officials told AFP that Iran is supplying munitions to aid Syria’s protest crackdown as part of a plan that saw Al Assad welcome Tehran’s revolutionary guards chief to Damascus.

Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps elite Quds force, was in the Syrian capital this month, the official said, in what Washington sees as the most concrete sign yet that Iranian aid to Syria includes military hardware, the officials said.

Meanwhile, Lebanese officials said a man was killed by a bullet coming from the Syrian side of the border.

The officials say Lebanese citizen Hassan Obaid, 17, died in a clinic where he was rushed after being hit in the stomach in his northern hometown of Bkarha near the border with Syria.

Several Lebanese and Syrian citizens have been killed in border areas in Lebanon since an uprising in Syrian.

Russian Ship Heads to Syria with Weapons: Report

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia - A Russian ship carrying a "dangerous cargo" has sailed for Syria after a brief stopover in Cyprus, despite a pledge reportedly given to Cypriot authorities, the vessel's owner said Jan. 13.

An independent Russian military analyst separately reported that the ship was likely to dock at the Syrian port of Tartus with what media said may be up to 60 ton of ammunition supplied by the state Russian arms exporter.

The Cypriot foreign ministry said Jan. 11 the Saint Vincent-flagged cargo ship was allowed to refuel and set sail from the port of Limassol after its Russian owners agreed to change the destination from Syria.

Cyprus inspectors said the ship's documents showed Turkey as an alternative destination point.

But the vessel's St. Petersburg-based operator Westberg Ltd said the Chariot decided to keep to its original schedule after leaving the Cyprus port.

"It was classified as a dangerous cargo, but that could really mean anything. We are not responsible for knowing what was inside the crates," a source at the shipping company told AFP.

The source refused to confirm a Russian state media report saying the cargo was being shipped by the state arms export agency Rosoboronexport through a freight company called Balchart.

Both Rosoboronexport and Balchart declined to comment when contacted by AFP.

But the respected Russian shipping analyst Mikhail Voitenko said on his Maritime Bulletin website on Jan. 12 that the Chariot had taken a direct course for the port of Tartus where Russia has a naval base.

He added that the ship's precise current location could not be determined because it had switched off its international tracking device about half way between Cyprus and Syria.

Moscow has defended Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad against global pressure and has argued that its ongoing arms sales were permitted under international law and would continue.

A Russian military source said on Dec. 1 that Moscow had delivered supersonic cruise missiles to Syria that protect the Arab state's shoreline against a naval attack.

It seems like Russia won't let anyone to intervene in Syria like Egypt

^^^
there was no intervention in Egypt. It was a people's uprising.

You may be referring to Libya.

Syria wont be a Libya as far as i can since certain foreign powers support the current regime. The best thing would be to reach a compromise as further violence will only weaken the country even further much to the delight of Israelis and other anti Syrian countries.

thins tall idiot will never leave so easy wait for qaddafi style actions

It's a call for US/Nato (incl. Turkey) to intervene in Syria.

No other non-NATO regional power could get enough troops to Syria to combat the Syrian Army.

My guess is that US-NATO will intervene only when there is a serious generalized armed rebellion, with rebels taking over parts of the country under their control (as in Libya). Otherwise, just talk.

Nobody should interfere...except for Arabs/Muslims.

well Arabs intervened in Bahrain and as a result we see they are killing people
by using poisonous Gases

Poisonous gases?? Iran media has gone far enough really. Crying about Bahrain and leaving poor syrians get decapitated and calling them agents of the west. Assad massacred tens of thousands of people and he is a hero on Iran.
