ZTE Teams With Ooredoo to Roll Out 5G in Myanmar

(Yicai Global) May 17 -- China's ZTE will join hands with another telecoms giant Ooredoo Myanmar to collaborate on the development of fifth-generation wireless network in the Southeast Asian nation.

The pair will leverage ZTE's technical expertise and Ooredoo's efforts in Myanmar, the Shenzhen-based firm said in a statement. Last May, Ooredoo claimed to be the world's first operator to launch a commercial 5G network, taking place in Qatar.

Viettel , the 4G only provider since they start operation , is the first one who start the preparation work for the 5G in Myanmar. Seem others players are also catching up. but it will take more time to work efficiently with fair price.

Huawei also submitted a proposal.

Huawei, which started research on 5G in 2009, is willing to cooperate with Myanmar and any organisation on the use of 5G. “A 5G proposal was submitted after studying major issues in upgrading Myanmar’s network. Huawei is willing to cooperate with partners to usher in the 5G era,” Fang Liangzhou, vice president of Huawei Network Energy Product Line, told an industry forum on 5G in Barcelona.
