Withdraw troops, let Afghans decide their future: Hikmatyar to Trump

Those Talis who have close ties to Pakistan will not lay down their weapons even after foreign troops leave as long as Pakistan feels, it doesn't have a friendly government in charge in Kabul. Troop withdrawal will at least tell which factions of the Taliban are ready to make peace and which ones want total power. Foreign troop presence is their excuse up until now not to lay down their weapons.

Possible but remember Pakistan supported Taliban because Kabul supported militants attacking Pakistan in the past. Taliban didn't accept durrand line but neither they supported anti-Pakistan elements. They stayed neutral, so if anything it's up to Afghan leaders. If they want to go back in time then Pakistan will support Taliban or for that matter ISI can come up with any organisation in Afghanistan. There is no shortage of unemployed Afghans.

Afghanistan's situation is different from Iraq's. In Afghanistan, the insurgency is led by the largest ethnic groups "pashtuns" while in Iraq the insurgency is mainly led by Sunni Arabs who are a minority in Iraq. Of course that is not to say all Pashtuns are Taliban supporters of all Sunni Iraqis are ISIS supporters.
when they leave you would become a weak northern alliance again.
by the way i expect a civil war among landlords and drug mafia.

Isn't Hikmatyar now part of the NUG?

Some do and some don't. I get there is a difference of opinion but this seems disunity. Some want foreign forces to stay and others see them as foreign occupiers who need to get out???

With foreign aid, ANA should continue to hold of taliban. Which is why I think USA should pull out troops and see what will happen. As long as they fund Afghan army I don't think Taliban can take over. This is what they were supposed to do before ISIS. But maybe things will be different this time.

Afghan taliban are in phase-1, still fighting ANA directly and trying to take over cities. Phase-2 will start later on when ANA frustrate taliban to the point that they will start to target average civilians on daily basis in markets, mosques etc ANA need to get so much better that taliban will not even think about taking them on head on. So when you see taliban blowing civilians in markets, mosques it will mean they have essentially lost. Maybe that day will not come and they will make some deal.

Pakistan supported Taliban because Indian backed warlords were committing war crimes and rapes. The Taliban were the only ones that brought authority to the Afghan state.

What you state is the actual reality. Taliban have lost militarily and blowing up civilians without any discrimination is what they are resorting to. The decisive battles for strategic territories in Helmand, Kondoz and other regions is lost. The strategy of the Afghan army was adapting a defensive posture against the full potential expected Taliban offenses, in order to ware them out first and then attack and inflict heavy casualties on them are paying off as we speak.
