Will imported tomatoes help tackle rising prices?

they won't fruit in excessive heat

government has to do everything? what's wrong with householders in cooler parts doing it themselves or the farmers in temperature controlled environments?

I grow just ten vines and I get a freezer full worth to last me a year

Balochistan has the highest production of Tomatoes, even more than punjab. Government has to allocate more land in Balochistan to grow tomatoes.

i think we should go for alternative of tomatoes and food can be cooked without them, they are not essential for human body, tomatoes were introduced in subcontinent by british, before that people were living without them and their health was also good so no need to import them, instead govt should educate people to look for alternatives unless production increases domestically

never been past quetta (even that in passing), anyhoo I'm told it has the driest climate and looks more like the moon surface than the earth. and that the people are dying of thirst. and the Chinese are being looked to for relief in the form of desalination plants.

so if it is as great as you say why don't you sell your excess tomatoes to Punjab?

anaardaana, aamchoor, raw green mango, lemon, lime? that is all the souring agents I know of for cooking. but for salads tomato has no alternative for me. one tom twice daily = 2 per day or about half a kg per week

Food products and the way they are grown in Pakistan are highly dependent on weather and rain. We need better year round green house type production facilities .
By the way until recently Pakistan used to export tomatoes... again good production in Pakistan is at the mercy of weather patterns.

no import only solve problem for short time, long time solution is (since most Pakistanis are not aware of how nature produces food so i will explain it in easy steps)

1. buy two planters fill them with khad+matti and drop two seeds of tomato in each at 1 inch depth
2. water daily and in a week you will see something green popping out of the soil
3. keep watering and don't be scared when you that green thing grow
4. when that green thing get to the height of 2 feet you will notice little yellowish flower buds (that will be replace with small green round object) we will now start calling it a tomato.
5. daily watering will make that little green baby tomato into a fully grown tomato in two weeks (yes that where tomato come from not made in a factory)

these two plants will give you at least a kilo of tomato each every week, enough for a family of six, no more buying tomato and that will save you 300 a week?

each plant will consume a glass of water each, one in the early morning and one after sunset.

now i will tell you something that will shake every bone in your body, you wont believe it is true but trust you me it as true as me typing this revelation here. you can grow garlic, Onion, ginger and enough vegetables if you have a 4 x 10 piece of land in front or back of your house, enough that you will hardly have to make trip to super market to buy vegetables.

no need to import tomatoes from any country ,no need to spend precious forex for the tomatoes because no one will die if he doesn't eat tomatoes, secondly a good local crop from Thatta Badin Mirpurkhas is ripening and reaching market in a few days plenty of tomatoes will be available and prices are also falling,

Why can't you frame an argument, without bigotry. Thank you.

There is no argument when it comes to souring prices for something as basic as a tomato.

As i said 6 year olds grow them on tissue paper all over the world as lab experiments.

To drag the notion of Persian equals Shia and then silence member by moderating them is not bigotry?

By calling IK Persian, you were implying that he was Shia, and that made him bad, that was why you were banned, simple really.

You deserve getting banned.... your arguments are always illogical and childish. You deserve no mercy .

Anyone who expects the government to provide them tomatoes is an idiot. I remember reading about the price of tomatoes during the Musharaf era (2003).

16 years on and there is still rona thona about tomatoes. Every single household in Pakistan has 1 square metre of space where they could grow tomato plants. I live in the UK and for 2 months a year we eat our own home grown tomatoes.

Not a single Pakistani businessmen has taken advantage of the opportunity. Instead you all sit there with mouths wide open like chiri ke bache.

I fear the same will happen to the opportunities of CPEC.
