Well I watched Chinese expressways in Youtube. Connecting bigger cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming, Shenzhen etc. And I found them to be 4 lane. Two lane on each direction. Not sure whether you will be able to watch the Youtube videos of Chinese expressways I have posted here. But if you can, then take a look. These are the expressways connecting bigger cities Beijing, Kunming, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi'an etc. All these are 4 lane. If these are 4 lane then which cities are connected by 8 lane expressways? I like to watch them. Please posts some videos.

Within cities or surrounding of it, 6-8 lane road/expressways are expected. But I was talking about Interstate or Inter-provincial long distance highways/expressways. There is nothing unusual about Chinese expressways connecting long distance cities and provinces with 4 lane expressways. Rather expected, considering that even American interstate highways are mostly 4 lane. Some American interstate highways are even 2 lane. Specially thinly populated states such as Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana etc. So 4 lane expressways connecting provinces and Metro cities in China are entirely fine and adequate. Six or 8 lane expressways in such cases would have been overkill which neither United States nor China did. And this is prudence in spending public money. You build which is required and give good returns. Why anyone should build 8 lane expressways if traffic volume do not require it and rather suffice by 4 lane? Cities apart by hundreds or thousands of km distance do not require 6-8 lane expressways. Four lane are enough. Which is demonstrated by both China and United States two countries with the largest motor vehicle fleet in the world.

You are not realizing what I am saying. Within city or surrounding of it, roads/expressways can be any number of lane. 4-6-8-10-12-14-16 even 20 lane. My posts are not about that. Such type of wider roads are common in every country in the world and China has plenty of them. Whose picture you are posting. I am saying about expressways which are connecting far apart cities, like Beijing with Shanghai or Shanghai with Kunming. Or expressways connecting various Chinese provincial capitals. These are the expressways are mostly 4 lane in China, which are adequate and entirely fine. I do not know why you are not understanding me in this case. Not a single posts here I have suggested anything remotely demeaning about China.
