NATO is made up of many countries, each defined by its own language. Each expects others to defend itself, but each is not willing to sacrifice to defend others. This is why NATO is not an effective alliance.

Umm.... you would find that many countries did.... nato is a defensive grouping.... it does not exist to further the colonial enterprise of some countries to secure oil based on a lie about WMD... additionally there was also no UN authorisation or legal justification

Nato and Iraq misadventure are two completely separate issues...

But NATO says it will only join a war if a member is attacked by a country...since there was no attack there was no call up. However individual NATO countries joined independently.

Well, I suppose other European nato members took over some duties from the UK, so that it could send the RN south.

The European Community, of which the United Kingdom is a member, fully supported the UK's position and opposed the invasion of the Falklands, the community also supported the United Nations Resolution requesting that Argentina withdraw from the islands. When Argentina refused, the community announced sanctions against Argentina.
