Why essential services/government offices not available on Sundays and you are forced to waste your leaves?

For instance we may have an appointment with a doctor or there could be official work like getting the house registered. Sometimes due to red tape, the work isn't finished and there could be a need to go again.

There is so much unemployment in the country that some people could be given semi-employment to work on days which are holidays for normal staff and these part-timers could be paid fraction of the normal salary. It would be so useful. The public could get their work done on their holidays and also save the precious leaves.

Edit-Add: If such arrangement is made on Sunday, there would be heavy rush. No amount of exorbitant Sunday fees would control the crowd. Everybody would turn up at government offices only on Sundays. I didn’t think about that.

everyone does not have to work on the same days

@Joe Shearer @Nilgiri @Levina @django guys what is the solution for this issue?

What the Scandinavian diplomats do; work in the early hours, when it is still bearable weather (in summer), and on Sundays (they don't do it, but nothing stopping us from doing it). What difference does it make if government offices get a holiday on some other day of the week other than on Sundays?

In Sweden no one compromises on the holidays... and you cannot expect them to work more than the official time but few do it themselves ..however IT has been exploited to its fullest so from opening bank accounts to paying bills.. get info, checking your income tax... everything can be done with a smart phone or laptop...

I think the problem in our countries is still the excessive dependence on the written word. I have yet to get a firm grip on my bank accounts - sadly, for various reasons, I have more than one, in different banks.

Just today, I got a nonsense request for original deeds for our inherited property to be shipped across because they were needed for valuation to be done, but that is just some bureaucrat trying to earn a quick buck. It is preposterous nonsense.
