Why CIA and ISI slept over intelligence about so-called nuclear test of India?

Both countries started making/learning the technologies since 1970. India officially tested in 98 and so did pakistan. Both countries were unofficially nuclear powers since a long time ago.

i suggest you watch the video of Zia Ul Haq @SorryNotSorry posted above in post number 6, tells you the insight of how secretive both countries programmes were before they officially told the world.
Pokhran I was done in 1974, the Pokhran II was a a series of tests done in 1998.

Even then, this doesnt change the fact- both countries played this game under extreme secrecy and under extreme diplomatic pressure.

yeah like i said the countries were fully engaged in making a bomb since the 70's, it was a near enough impossible job to make a bomb and both India and Pakistan made one defying all odds.

people still remember Bhuttos speech like it was yesterday about eating grass as long as we got the bomb to defend ourselves.

we did it in a time of no computers or internet, just look at how tough its been for Iran even in this day and age.

True. It was a great feat for both India and Pakistan.
Hopefully both our nukes -rot away and never see any action.

Inshallah.

And it worked didn't it, no countries have attacked us since we became Nuclear armed states except us attacking each other. Lack of education and ultra nationalism is the reason Pakistan and India aren't good friends internationally. Any sane leaders after independence should have put their heads together and worked for each other benefit rather then hurting each other at all costs.

i really hope the millennials growing up in both countries actually have a different school of thought regarding relationships with each other compared to the generations of the last 70 years.

What a great interview on Gen. Zia ul Haq's part. It's amazing how composed he remains under all the finger pointing. He plays the freedom card on the American journalist. LOL Extraordinary!
This shows when the prep actually started, and Pakistan's stance on the subject during the early days.

Why interviewer is forcing Zia for NPT? He even said if Pakistan linked its NPT with India, it would be seen as India dictating Pakistan's foreign policy. Why US didn't tried with India in similar manner, so that they may sign NPT- with or without Pakistan? Infect US knew India is far away from nuclear arms tech. and that's why they let Bitch Bhutto to transfer planes load of Pakistan's hard work to Iran for free :( revealed by Dr. AQ Khan in his admission, while detailed references were given in book of brig. general Feroze Khan in his book 'eating grass', and seemingly, from thereon it made its way to India., revealed by X president Pervez Musharraf, in his book 'in the line of fire'.

Hey! Hey! Hey!

Do you mean to say that the origin of 'India's nuclear technology' is Pakistan and USA turned a blind eye to flow of knowledge from Pakistan to India? Did I get you right?

My first reaction was skepticism and I thought your post is obnoxious beyond imagination. But on second thoughts I felt anything was possible. I have lost faith in Indian institutions.

Whether Pakistan got its nukes from China or USA or built indigenously is not my concern. But India surely did not buy nukes from any nation. Sanctions following 1974 tests is the clear indicator for that. Just mere knowing that atoms can be break down to release high amounts of energy, a concept first experimented in western world is not plagiarism. It still requires sophisticated bombardment if neutrons to start the reaction, which is not an easy task. Otherwise you would be stuck with the dirty bomb at best, using radioactive substance. Already limited nations earlier knew how to make these, and doubt anyone would choose to help India over Pakistan, considering helping latter would make things more interesting in South Asia :).
Inciting sanctions doesn't mean the test was indeginous. Perceptions that invite sanctions doesn't necessarily mean that the perception is correct. It might also mean India did a great job in fabricating a facade. Do you know Chinese do a lot of copying, reverse-engineering and even recruitment of Russians to do R&D in their institutions. Yet they are regarded as superpower.

Don't be over dramatic.... those are not my words, I quoted references and those are facts.
Blue prints of Pakistani centrifuges were every where, it was G.Bush who passed one copy to Pervez Musharraf.
Whereas the broker mafia sitting in Dubai was Indian nationals, they still live in India.
I only be deceiving my self, if I say India and Israel failed to secure a copy for them selves!
Whereas looking at time line of your tests followed by tech. transfer to Iran.... it makes sense.

Why CIA and ISI slept over intelligence about so-called nuclear test of India?

In 1998, CIA and ISI were caught napping over intelligence inputs about 'nuclear test' by India. Don't say that CIA wasn't interested in Indian nuclear programme. Till the nuclear tests were 'conducted', they did nothing but once the tests were made public, a furor was created. West was up in arms against India. Sanctions were imposed, lectures were given and what not.

It doesn't matter what CIA was doing but india becoming a nuclear power has given us a much bigger deterrence than we could have ever thought off. Many great superpowers cannot do much against us due to our nuclear's. The example of North Korea is infront of everyone, America is capable of taking no military action against them due to their nuclear's.

How can you be so confident of India? The clues to this mystery of indeginousness is same for India and Pakistan. Pakistan too has produced Nobel prize physicist who is respected all over the world. In fact Abdus Salam has a reputation which no Indian can match. You are sure of India because you have been brought up in Indian environment. You kept listening to Indian news channels and read Indian newspapers and magazines. Similarly Pakistanis too have been taught that their nuclear and missile programme is indeginous.

@salarsikander

@911

Dude,

You have been virtually indoctrinated!
