Who are the customers for rip-off products?

well depend on the product ,but for example I don't see why I must buy
branded clothes when I can buy non-branded ones for 1/10 of the price
even if the cheap one work only 2/3th of the life time of the expensive one

but when it come to the electronic products I'll buy the originals and more
importantly I'll stay 10 leagues away from Overpriced ,Underperformed and
Fancy looked products of Apple

Why do your rich friends want fake products?

The ladies want all the colours of the Hermés Kelly bags and Bardot bags. Each of them costs 3000-6000 Euro and some even more. Hermés changes colours every season. The ladies also want Dior bags and Ferragamo bags. One million Euro would not be enough to buy the many bags for one season.

The guys actually have the real Montblanc foutain pen, but they are too stingy to buy the newest collection. Often it's also just curiosity and the feeling they bought something that works perfectly without paying the high price. ;)

That makes sense for rich

But how about other consumer products?

Who are the customers for rip-off products?

We used to have lots of fake products in India. Their only market was rural areas where most of the people were illiterates and used to identify the product with the color and design/model. That used to work in those days. I am talking about 20 years back. I doubt if there are any such products floating around in the rural market in India nowadays. But my point is, these fake products mainly target the people who can not read the labels. China's literacy rate is much better now. Who are the real target customers for these products? Even if we believe that the popular brands are not able to satisfy the demand, but then how those customers can buy rip-off products? if they are looking for popular brands, that means they are looking for quality and brand image. How the same people can prefer ripped off products? that makes no sense to me..

If there is such a huge market of unsatisfied customers, why can't these companies make new quality products to cater those markets? What is the point in buying SQNY instead of real Sony? What is the point in buying PUNK instead of PUMA? What is the logic behind all this?

Are they buying not knowing they are rip-offs OR are they buying knowing that they are rip-off but still quality products OR is it written in original name in Chinese but rip-off name in English? :what:

Its not Chinese that are bringing this product into India or Pakistan its the importers they buy these products with the knowledge that they are fake.Importers bring these Goods into the market as there is a demand for it your comments about educated or uneducated people buying these goods is totally wrong i have been to new york few times where on the streets you can buy Rolex for 50 to 100 bucks (fake off course)and in the stores any where from 20,000 to over Quater of a million I assure u i have seen people in expensive suits buy the fake ones.

It depends on the product. Not all rip offs are bad.

When i was in university i use to see my friends use to walk around with 555 brand cigarettes but the Cigarettes inside were embassy brand i am not sure but 555 was very expansive brand and embassy cost less then a rupee they simply recycled the package over and over again so they can look cool and not cheap.

:hitwall::hitwall: they take pride in original brand 555, not some 5SS. There is a difference between rip-off and cheap products :hitwall:

But how about other consumer products?

Watches are very demanded as well and many times it's just pure luck whether they work or not. Some of my colleagues have bought Tag Heuer watches. One of it went broke after one month, but the other three have been running flawlessly for the last three years. Some of my friends are collectors of watches, although they have the money, it's also a sense of curiosity why they still would like to have a fake Lange & Söhne. Besides that, fake Ralph Lauren andd other medium priced fashion brands are also very demanded.

Well actually, if you know where to go, you are not buying fake products at all, they are either grey products or b products coming from the same factories of the original, but you pay a fraction of the price. Grey products are often overproduction (on purpose) and B products are products with little flaws that nobody really cares and sees. The real fakes are most often really shoddy already from look.

My colleague has done a documentary about fake products and he told me about all the fine differences. ;)
