So I wonder why the sudden interest in this issue on the part of the US?

The reality is that the leadership of the US has been on a power trip using their unipolar moment for the last three decades indiscriminately bombing and destabilizing most of the non-Western world and causing millions of deaths as well as tens of millions of refugees and untold suffering.

The fact that there is now a peer power that will likely be even stronger than the US scares the living shit out of them and they are acting in desperation right now trying to sabotage China, throwing everything AND the kitchen sink at it. There was a time when Iraq was confident it had enough firepower to defend itself against any aggression; it's SAM system were state of the art and plentiful.

The world had no idea what stealth even was at the time and the US undertook SEAD missions with their stealth bombers which annihilated the Iraqi SAM system. This was in the early 90's.

The US does not have a habit of disclosing its state of the art weapons and defense systems which are atleast 20-30 years ahead of every nation on Earth. In the Air, it's 6th Gen Fighter program is already operational, I am sure, at a time when countries are struggling with their 5th Gen fighter systems. The US has discovered and mastered techniques which the other countries have no clue even today and it continues to develop and train at a level which is over and above others.
