That's low estimate. The US recently discovered close to 50 billion barrels of oil. The US now has about 100 billion barrels in reserves.

All these claims have to be taken with a grain of salt. The unconventional reserves...
shale tar sands... Are extracted less efficiently. Even conventional crude well leave a lot of oil in the ground. It all boils down to the cost to technically recover the oil. Economic and technically extractable reserves are far lower numbers.
