West unleashes death squads in Mideast region
Press TV has conducted an interview with Sukant Chandan, a political analyst from London, to discuss Iran's stance on the issue of terrorism and the US-led military intervention across the Mideast region.
The following is a summary and an approximate transcript of the interview.
Press TV: Addressing the UN General Assembly, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said the experience of creation of al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and modern extremist groups have demonstrated that one cannot use extremist groups to counter an opposing state and remain impervious to the consequences of rising extremism.’ This basically defines Western intervention in many Muslim countries, and even in Ukraine. Your response?
Sukant Chandan: I would agree with the comments by President Rouhani, except for the fact that I don’t think that the death squads that the West and their regional allies have unleashed against Libya, Syria, Iraq and other regional countries adversely and strategically affect the West at all in any way. You can see this phenomenon benefits west strategically on all accounts.
I say briefly about what is happening now with the bombing of Syria from the Mediterranean and the north Persian Gulf is basically a trap for the Syrian government.
For the West, if they do not hear the Syrian government bending over backwards to support the Western bombing campaign off Syria, these are the same leading forces have been financing, arming and training the death squads against the Syrian government.
If the West do not hear Syrian government come to support the enemies in the West, the west will and already are saying that look! Syrian government are not supporting our war on terror in Syria. The West would, therefore, conclude that Syrian government and President Assad is part of problem and we must overthrow theby means of war and aggression.
However, the West can go on and succeed is a question as Russia, china, Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah along with the Syrian government have their own say in this situation.
They [West] will try to do to Syria what they have already done to Libya which is to bring death squads into the country. They will also try to turn Syria into a total collapsed and failed state as they have done so in Libya.
They have already done all this before to Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Chandan: The primary strategic allies of Washington are London and Paris governments, and they are also financers and armament suppliers in this all scenario. London and Washington’s strategic allies are the Persian Gulf monarchies, Turkish state and Pakistani military intelligence set-up. This is the whole set-up that forms the foundation of all these death squads.
If the West were really interested in really fighting this surge of terrorism—which is terribly impacting the people of region, they would cut the strategic relationship with terrorists in this phony war on terror. But they are not interested in that. They are really interested in developing these death squads in achieving this strategic interest.
The Arab spring was the historic opportunity for the west and NATO to intervene as the West and NATO openly bombed Libya to achieve their interests...
Hundreds of young people go from Britain to Turkey to conduct terrorism. Turkey has facilitated up to 12,000 people who have gone into Syria to conduct armed opposition to overthrow the sovereign government of President Assad.
Chandan: I go back to the point if the US administration is concerned about Islam and Muslims; why then they don’t cut their connections with militants and the [Persian] gulf monarchies. Why not they cut the ties with people who have same conceptualization as ISIL.
