Voters panicky, EC prepares for polls

Violating constitutional obligation of entertaining EC request for army Awami regime decided at last minute not to dispatch them. BNP tried even upto last minutes by requesting authorities to send army and provide secure environment. But Awami regime intention to rig vote decided NOT to do so.
BNP actually had no option but withdrawing from a farcical election that designed for rigging.

And for whom Awami regime rigging this election - Shamim Osman a notorious terrorist and feared across Narayanganj area.

When Shamim Osman along with Jainal Hazari another Awami terrorist was wanted by law enforcement, they were sheltered in India. Here is an old article from daily new nation.

AL endorsed Shamim Osman, but then encouraged Iveey Rahman to run in Narayanganj. AL then very tactfully declared a non-presence of military during election day. All these are ploys to show that since even a strong DAKOO contender like Shamim Osman cannot win an election with an AL ticket even when military is absent, therefore, it is fair to assume that a general election directly under AL will also be fair.

It seems this farcical Narayanganj election is only the rehearsal for the next general election that this heinous AL wants to hold and bag a win by hook or by crook.

Believe me I was also going to post the same stuff. This is a stage drama by BAL to show that they have conducted a pretty fair election. Shamim Osman will not win it was pretty clear from the beginning and along with public support was towards Ivy. So, BAL played a tricks here by supporting shamim osman they stopped him from accusing BAL for betrayal which he may make issue to take revenge in the next election. Now BAL has got the opportunity to say that look without military election was held and our supported party has lost. So under BAL free and fair election is possible.

But 1 thing is beyond my mind why BNP led candidate withdraw from the poll... was he not popular enough. Or BNP does not wanted to face defeat in the mayor election now or to support ivy against shamim osman??? Any idea!!!

Yes i also have the same feeling. Everyone knew from the beginning that Shamim Osman had no chance whatsoever of winning this election against Selina Hayat Ivy. AL prolly pulled this off to convince people that they can conduct "free and fair election without army presence". Hence, we might not see army during the national elections either.

Like Awamileague it was also a rehearsal for BNP... they showed they are not going to vote without their demand fulfiled.... BNP had a good chance to win or atleast make a close competition with Ivy! BNP supporters voted for Ivy as well as neutral people who wanted to vote BNP also voted Ivy! This is why ivy got so huge win..... Now suppose a scenario - god father Awami candidate, no military, evm, election under awamileague govt, BNP candidate winner...... It would give credibility to next parliament election under awamileague govt.. This is why BNP candidate was withdrawn... A good move to me....

Sorry cannot agree with you as it is a bit of wishful thinking. BNP knew from the beginning that their candidate had no chance in any way of winning in the mayor election. It was always going to be Ivy vs Shamim. Ivy has serious public support in that area while Shamim had the party support.

You are a Awami supporter. Aren't you. :azn:

Look at the result of the election. Ivy got about 180K whereas Awami backed candidate got 78K. Big difference. she could not win with such huge margin without the support of BNP, directly and indirectly. Ivy is better than Shamim. This gang star would have made hell for BNP. ;)

Awamis aren't stupid. They also knew all along that Ivy was alot more popular than Shamim but did not support her in the election because they wanted to loose this election for bigger gain. You see, if BNP backed candidate would have stay in the race and won this election then Awami could have come up with the strong argument that there is no need for cater taker govermnet, Army because strong and independant election commission can conduct a free and fair election under political party. They actually were helping BNP candidate to win by splitting Awamis vote. BNP would have been left dry and empty against this argument.

This last minute decision has turn the table, BNP will gain politically.

Now, BNP can argue and demand for the CTG:
1-Election commission is not really free because Awami did not deploy the army although there was a request.
3-This commision is Awamis pimp because they neither resign nor stop the poll because government did not full fill their requirement.
3-Awami has no people support because their candidate loss with huge margin. Ivy won because she ran with local support and BNP did not participate.

And so on...

Here is a rafb math total voter 420000
ivy got (180000)
samim got (78000)
taimur got (7000)
--------
voter left around 155000
just wondering what would happened to tamur in free election ?
if we assume some of the vote of tamur went to ivey support , suppose 30000~35000 only then tamur had a chance :)

@ Politics is a complex game where nobody losses. If somebody losses he or she prepares for the next time and starts observing more keenly about his/her opponent. In the election of Narranganj City election who (BNP or AL) is a real gainer it is difficult to say.

@ As per my assessment considering the interest of AL, I will say in general is gainer. As because it was a competition within AL. Dr Selina Iv still belongs to AL and traditionally she is from AL family. I remember in 1974 during the municipal election, the father of Selina tried to obtain the nomination from AL but Sk Mujib gave it to the father of Shammem Osman. But election result was completely opposite. Presently the same thing happens. This is called the " History Repeats itself ". Now, Dr Selina proved herself as the most popular leader as against Osman. The General people of Narranganj is also happy as have thrown the God Father to dustbin. Shammim Osman is also happy as he now plans to give a fight in the next general election. It would not be surprise that at that time Dr Selina Iv(provided she remains within AL) would give whole hearted support to Osman.

@ BNP is also happy as because if BNP had contested the election than the situation could had been different. Shamim Osman could have became more hostile and who knows even he could snacked the election result in his favour. BNP now can claim that govt did not listen to the EC for the deployment of Army and hence under the political no free and fare election is possible. Let's see what's up next !!!!!!

Al- Zakir bro... im neither a BNP supporter nor a AL supporter, i pretty much despise both and firmly believe we need to get rid of these two parties and get better people in. Having said that, i criticize when someone does something wrong and i applaud when someone does something right, which i think is the way it should be.

;)

the election was almost free and fair and with out any violence so intentionally by AL to show the people that a election can be free and fair under political govt so BNP didn't participate as they feared if they won in a army less election held under a political govt that could use as excuses by AL that a national election can be free and fair under current govt .

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked Narayanganj mayor-elect Selina Hayat Ivy and her defeated party rival Shamim Osman to work together for the city's development.

Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, was talking to Ivy and Shamim at Gono Bhaban in the capital yesterday, a day after Ivy defeated Shamim in the Narayanganj city corporation election.

Expressing satisfaction at the role of both party leaders in the polls, she said “You two held the top two positions in the election. The other candidates were nowhere near you. You have proved how strong and popular the Awami League is in Narayanganj. Now you have to work together.”

A smiling AL chief greeted Ivy with flowers on her arrival at Gono Bhaban at about 8:10pm.

Hasina embraced the mayor-elect and planted a kiss on her forehead. The prime minister assured Ivy that she would get all sorts of cooperation to serve the people of Narayanganj.

Ivy and her two sons -- Shadmad Hayat Kazi Simanta and Shajil Hayat Kazi Ananta -- also greeted Hasina with flowers.

Shamim Osman, who suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Ivy despite party backing, arrived at Gono Bhaban before Ivy.

A source said Hasina first held a closed-door meeting with the two for about 30 minutes. Later, the prime minister along with them entered another room, where party leaders from Narayanganj and close aides to Ivy had been waiting.

Attired in an off-white and pink sari, Ivy in a jovial mood sat to the right of the prime minister with an obviously dejected Shamim on Hasina's left.

The prime minister congratulated the people of Narayanganj on a free, fair and peaceful city corporation election.

“This is the policy and ideology of the Awami League. We always believe in fair elections and empowerment of the people,” said the AL president.

A local leader said they, at one stage, were doubtful whether the polls would be fair and free from violence.

In response, Hasina said, “It is the style of the BNP, not of the Awami League.”

She said all elections held in the country since the AL assumed power had been free and fair.

“A democratic atmosphere prevails in the country and the people's right to vote has been ensured.”

Hasina said she always believed that people were the source of power, and they would determine the outcome of every election. She had always wanted the Narayanganj city corporation polls to be held peacefully.

“The Narayanganj city corporation election was held amid festivity. It has never happened in the past in a local body election in the country.”

It has happened now because the Awami League is in power, said the prime minister.

“It has been my dream all my life to establish a democratic environment in Bangladesh, where people will be the source of ultimate power.”

The most important lesson from the Narayanganj polls, she noted, was the empowerment of women.

“We always talk about empowerment of women, and a woman has come out victorious in the election.”

On the BNP-backed candidate's last minute pull-out of the election on grounds of non-deployment of the army, she said, “Historically, it has not been proved that an election will be free and fair with the deployment of the army.”

She said the BNP had superseded nine army officers to appoint Moin U Ahmed as army chief in the hope that the army would help it stay in power. “But, eventually, it did not work.”

After the meeting, a beaming Ivy told reporters that she had contested the election with the blessings of the prime minister, and went to Gono Bhaban yesterday to get Hasina's blessings for performing her duties properly.

“My leader [Hasina] advised me to work for the people of Narayanganj,” said Ivy.

Regardless of what had happened in the party during the polls in Narayanganj, all local AL leaders would now work in unison, said the mayor-elect.

Shamim told reporters after the meeting that he was defeated in the polls but his party won the election. “We both followed the directives of our leader [Hasina], and she was very happy with it.”

He said the election was so peaceful and fair that not even a single general diary over the polls had been lodged with any police station.

“I think the BNP has lost its ground for demanding a mid-term general election after such fair polls.”

Both Ivy, vice president of Narayanganj city AL, and Shamim, former Al lawmaker from Narayanganj, lobbied for party backing to vie for the mayoral post. After weeks of drama and confusion, the AL finally decided to back Shamim.

Ivy, who earlier served as mayor of Narayanganj municipality for eight years, has been popular among voters for implementing massive development projects in Narayanganj during her period in office.

Awami disowned her yet she goes to meet god mother of all gang stars. Laanat on Ivy. Shameless women.
She has shown middle fingers to people who voted for her including BNP loosers.
