Visiting Bangla Desh

It was the 14th Div. Ayub Khan as a Brig was the first GOC. His promotion to Maj Gen was pursued by CM Khwaja Nazimuddin who later became GG and PM.The Flag Staff House then was where the Caretaker Chief stays nowadays. It's last regular occupant Mansur Ali was PM and Home Minister when he was killed in that house.

@ I read in some where President Yahya Khan was also the GOC of East Pakistan sometimes from 1960 to 1964, I can't remember the exact date ? Can you please confirm me when he was GOC in East Pakistan ? In those days I mean during 1965 Indo-Pak War the East Pakistan had only two Brigrades ?????

1. In fact Ayub was intially poster as Area Comdr, East Pak Sub Area, 1948-Nov 1949. It had only 2xbns. Gen Gracy then gave Ayub the local rank of Maj Gen and titled him GOC. Later when Ayub (PA-10) was posted as AG his rank was confirmed antedated. We will be ungrateful if we did not acknowledge several steps Ayub took or set stage for towards development of East Bengal's defense.

2. Gen Mian Ghulam Jilani Khan was the next GOC 1955 onward. Who was before him I do not remember. Could be Fazle Muqim.

3. Umrao Khan came next (1958-59). Except Azam Khan no military officer or non-Bengalee could become so popular. Till he died Bengalees visiting Lahore would drop in to pay respect. It was during his time that Indo-E Pak border mangement SOPs were signed - which is still being followed.

4. Kazi Abdur Rahim also came, but was recalled shortly and reduced to the rank of Brig for some reason.

5. Your question regarding Yahya. He was in Dhaka, 1962-64. During this time there was a riot where his tough attitude was acclaimed by all. From here he went to Sialkot as GOC.

6. Muzaffaruddin was the GOC till Aug 69. He must have come two years earlier.

7. Khadim Husain Raja, an Arty officer, was the last one, 1971.

than who says, "Welcome to your former east Pakistan"? Is not it a to betrayal those given their lives for freedom and three million massacred?

no one other than those did not want freedom will say this.

You are an Indian. So why do you care what a Bangladeshi said about his country? :pop:

if you look at my 'avtar', i saw a similar insignia painted on a white BD armed forces bus. is the BD armed forces still using pre-71 insigninia's or was that just a one-off.

maybe you are talking about this one and i guess it was designed after 1971

@ These insigninia's were made during the British times. Now once Indian Sub-Continent was divided between India and Pakistan only change took place is, instead of Crown of Queen, India uses "Ashock Ishtambo" and Pakistan uses "Chand Tara". Once we were separated from Pakistan we started using "Shapla"(name of flower) instead of "Chand Tara" and that's all. All other colours remains same.

Three million? Boy, what weed have you been smoking on :cheesy:

Question: How many times do you need to get banned? Every time I see you, there is a pink font. On second thoughts: Stop trolling!

I think Bd military still operating like Pakistan. This is probably because Bd's military was rebuild after 75 by General Zia who happened to be educated in Urdu as well as was an Islamic minded. Bangladesh army is being thought to fight in the ways of Allah.

Where is the photos man? :argh:

 You still want to remember those days?

Usually jamati razakars use such words! they cannot forget their works of brutality during the period.

Not necessarily. A man with knowledge of history does not have to be a Razakar to tell the truths of the past. As I said earlier, we were proud Pakistani before a war was imposed unnecessarily in 1971 March. Now, we are proud Bangladeshis.

There was NO brutality before 1971. Any war is full of savageries and brutalities, and 1971 saw brutality from both sides. Before 1971 it was normal as usual, the politicians were bickering and throwing muds at each other.

Note that military people do not move without order. So, we cannot just say PA was brute. It was the decision of the high Command that propelled them to become brute. We also did the same thing. So, what is the fuss?

1. The major difference for Pak mily post-1947 was the adoption of the Saracen round shield discarding the Christian Crusader shield. Indians stuck to the Christian Crusader shield. BD has adopted the Saracen round shield.

2. Like PA, BD also uses "786" as formation numeral for GHQ. Similarly Qu'oranic verses have been adopted wherever appropriate.

3. It is interesting to watch PMA and BMA parades. Shoulder shields with
نَصْرٌ مِّن اللَّهِ وَفَتْحٌ قَرِيبٌ "Nasrum Minal Lahe wa Fathun Qarib" is embossed on the academy insignia and shoulder shield of both. The uniforms are also ditto copies. However, and I have witnessed passing out of both academies, BMA cadets are v v smart and look agile.

4. Unfortunately the significance of the round Saracen shield to Islamic heritage seems to be getting lost in both BD and Pakistan. I have witnessed this in Iran and Saudi Arabia also. But Turks are very conscious about this. And please observe, the Turks also use the Saracen curved sword whereas BD and Pak use the Crusader Christian straight sword.

5. In initial days in BD there was a debate to use a tiger's head instead of the "shapla" / lotus flower. But some people had objected to using an animal impression.
