F-5 is a venerable aircraft. Respected, but old and aging.

Yet, that was still a good landing. Kudos to the pilot's skill. Given credit where its due.

Whats the point of modern fighter jets when you cant even defend ur air space? for the argument sake lets agree PAF is 100 times better then irani but they are doing a better job of defending their air space.

Do you want me to provide u with substantial proof of Pak military being directly involved in Drone raids? And btw its the job of the military to protect airspace not politicians.

in a sense he is right, we still operate mirage 3/5. they are from same time as f-5s.
our mirages have been upgraded, they quite different than what they were before in their orignal condition..

ok ur saying that military is involved in drone attacks, if so then ofcourse they wouldnt shoot them down!
and one more thing it is the job of PAF to protect air space but they need permission from the leadership, military and civilian. otherwise the consequences for those actions would be same as the outcome of US air strikes against PA.

That is not entirely true. When defending air space there is usually a small window of time to do the job and in no country the top civilian or military officials are involved. It is not like when an attack is under way the commanders pick up to phone the president for his permission to defend against a bomber intruding the air space. The official reason of why we failed was that the communication and radar equipments were jammed and that is why the loss of coordination and the ability to detect intruding party. Otherwise even A-5 or Mirage-3 are well capable of defending against drones and helicopters.

And to those making fun of Iran:

F-5 is a third generation fighter plane and not second generation as some are saying on this forum. Mirage-III on the other hand is a second generation fighter and we are still using them. And no air force has an entire force of fifth generation fighters. Even Brazil still is using F-5 fighters and these are to be retired in 2030. As for F-14, it still is a good aircraft and will remain for some time. F-14 is basically very similar to F-15 both in role and capability and this aircraft can be a good template for Iran to design its own aircraft based on F-14.

The Aircraft is old, but the reason why the nose gear buckled under cannot be attributed to that just by watching a video. I've seen two incidents
1- An F-18 Super hornet in Pensacola Florida landed and the nose gear went in, the airplane and the pilot were okay but it was a scary thing to watch.
2- Peshawar Pakistan - Chinese F-5 of the Black Widow Squadron landed and lost all landing gear screeching down the Runway 17.
This kind of stuff happens all the time. Just glad the pilot is okay. Its their training that saves them and a lot of luck.
