how can "X" be 5? the triangle and V1 are not equal is size

That is the way to represent it lol. 3 shows the vertical component of v1 is 3 and 4 shows the horizontal component of v1 is 5. The hypotunese gives magnitude of v1. I might be wrong tho. But it certainly gives the angles the vector makes with x axis and y axis. Besides if that wasn't the case you would never be able to find magnitude of v.

V2 is at 60 degrees and at right angle to V1. 180 - (60+90) = 30 degrees, which is also what the little triangle 4:3 tells us.

V2 is (-14cos60°,14sin60°) = (-7,7√3)
V = V2-V1 = (-7-4,7√3-3) = (-11,7√3-3)
magnitude of V = √((-11)²+(7√3-3)²) = 14.29
angle of V:
arctan ((7√3-3)/11) = 39.675°
angle = 180-39.675 = 140.32°
