US urges India to sign CISMOA to access to defence technology

we should be watchful while signing any such agreements , it can be easy trap or what i say American style

India should sign it in order to acquire the best technology. This is required from countries like Israel, Britain and Japan.

Approx. 90 countries have signed the agreement with the USA historically. India is the only country to refuse to sign; simply because India does not need to sign on the dotted line!
Remember what PM of Malaysia Mahathir Mohammed said about the US jets in their air-force. Their mission computers could not be programmed to attack Singapore.

And you are aware politically that US would not want anything sold to India to be use against Pakistan as they are an important strategic allie. I believe GoI would tacidly agreed to this to get some US hardwares.

same thing will be happen on p-8i

yeah , but u should understand that we are providing Indian Communication suites for both P8I and C130 thankls to the offset clause in all indian defence deal due to which Boing has to source 30% of components from India , though indian comm equipment might not be as high tech as american equipment but u should understand that it is muh more important for P8I to interoperate with our TU95 Bears and IL38 Seadragons rather than USN

THAT WOULD BE KIND OF STUPID , since whatever offensive equipment that we buy will have a higher chance of being used a against Pakistan than say China , Bangladesh , Srilanka or even Australia

I do not think so. US gov has place this kind of restriction of countries that are not close allies. In which case India fits. Only if India sign CISMOA and leave the Soviet camp would it be possible for India to be a close allie of US. India is still try to have both feet on 2 separate boats and a time will come when India have to choose. By then, India would sign this agreeement if it sides with the US.

@ faithfulguy
Let me start by saying that you are probably not clear what CISMOA (Communication Interoperability and Security Memorandum of Agreement ) means and how it works. But let me assume that you do, and proceed.

No!! GoI has not and will not agree to CISMOA and BECA. If some of the hardware comes without pieces of equipment; so be it. Either they will come lacking that stuff as in the case of the C-130s. In which case, India will source equivalents and install them; which is being done in the case of the C-130 Hercules and the P-8i Poseidons. Probably you have not been following the news of the acquisitions and are just indulging in speculation. Please check the Internet (and threads on this forum), it will help you to inform yourself better. There is even the possibility that India may turn down offers of some hardware just because it will not sign!
So in your own words:"I believe GoI would tacidly(sic) agreed to this to get some US hardwares" is invalid.

Now, referring to your post; everybody knows the US-Pakistani relationship as "non-NATO allies" and how deep that runs. That said, in reference to your first statement: so far the Equipment that is being lined for sale by the USA to India includes C-130,C-17, P-8i LRMR and (possibly) MRCA aircraft, Harpoon missiles, Javelin missiles, M-777 Howitzers and (possibly) Strykers. Which of these equipment will be used where is any bodys guess.

can this also be valid incase of Blk52 s BEING SUPPLIED TO PAF , coz that would be kind of stupid

Oh really ? strategic ally is too big a term to describe the hot and cold relationship b/w US and Pak. BTW, at this point of time, diplomatic relations are at an all time low.

There are more....Apache block 3, Black Hawk, ScanEagle, MQ-8 Fire Scout (already cleared for sale but depends on India). I don't know about stryker but it was once talked that we have signed on agreement for JLTV (joint light tactical vehicle). Patriot missille system is also on the list.

Yes...

I believe GoI would tacidly agreed to this to get some US hardwares.
So you are in this forum for just trolling ??/ Do you know anything about indian foreign policies ???

Remember what PM of Malaysia Mahathir Mohammed said about the US jets in their air-force. Their mission computers could not be programmed to attack Singapore.
I don't think it has something to do with CISMOA. I think its because of end-user monitoring agreement.

US gov has place this kind of restriction of countries that are not close allies.
Every1 has to sign this inorder to enter in US club.

Only if India sign CISMOA and leave the Soviet camp would it be possible for India to be a close allie of US.
FYI India is not in any camp....

India is still try to have both feet on 2 separate boats and a time will come when India have to choose. By then, India would sign this agreeement if it sides with the US.
We will wait for that time but in the mean time there are more chances that US will make exception for its new friend India. If they lose MMRCA, you will see next time the will stop talking about this agreement.
