US unveils new 'micro-drone'

You should not take the noise to be a disqualifier. In an appropriate environment, it would be irrelevant, assuming the deployed product remain unchanged from the prototype, which we know is just about never the case.

sigh... why I said.

They'll probably work on the noise problem

and offered owl flight as a possible solution since the theme is bio mimicry.

the thing they demonstrated is still a helo(not the cgi part) it would take all of 2 secs for one to realize no natural bird has wings that rotate around their body to fly

How close would they have to be to tell, and how likely is it that a person would focus their attention so on what a quick glance would seem to be a hummingbird?

But hummingbirds are relatively uncommon in alot of places. I suppose they choose this design because the wings of hummingbird when moving are hard to see anyway so people won't find the wing funny at first.

I have never seen a hummingbird before, and most people probably haven't. It'll make people just more curious.

Pretty cool, cant wait to see what the final version would look like.

Maybe attach some plastic explosives to it! I should patent that :) Just like what the Israelis did to this guys cellphone.

Introducing the Cell Phone Bomb

Or maybe just mess with them and zoom by there heads!

Could be a good asset in close combat situations to get awareness of what the enemy is doing. Even if they dont fix the noise problem, which they will, in a gunfight the noise will be canceled out. Will help alot in ambush situations by sending one of these little dudes in to scope out the area and troop positions.

Actually it's small size should place a limit on it's power source, antennas etc so maybe you could try to jam it?
