I see what public is failing to put in perspective is that, all the new procurement by InAF, ever since 27th February are Pakistan concentric!
India /Indians need no convincing that they can never match Chinese, for which they would limit to diplomatic level. We have witnessed clear difference in Indian approach, from speeches, with words ''i have given free hand to army, they can choose to strike on their will'', to ''China is in Chinese territory''! point is it's crystal clear, who is the target foe of this new Indian military buildup.

Indians will not sit back only with Russian and French, they will acquire whatever best is available in world market.

Case of F-16 only hints that India has decided to build single engine with local design, while all foreign procured jets will be twin engine. May be some Indian can confirm it.

while India is happy to buy attack helo and transport from the US it will never buy US fighters .. as it has seen US embargo on any country that does not comply with its strategic interest. Iran , Pakistan, Venezuela, Argentina etc are all examples of countries that have purchased US planes then got slapped with sanctions for a variety of reasons.


In short due to US India fault lines there will be a time India will be a receiving end of US punishment.

I was talking to one of my friend... who flies MKI... and he said that India should move from Russian jets to Indian, US and EU jets... he feel that new order to Russia should be the last... until unless some revolutionary tech is on the table...

According to him... India should buy atleast 72 Rafale... and 150+ F 21... and I was SHOCKED to hear about F21 and asked why?

He gave me detailed answer... bottomline was...

Completley different avionics, armaments, radar packed in a plane which looks like F16... single engine, cheap and will create an ecosystem for DOMESTIC JETS... but yes, complete TOT, manufacturing, maintainance and overhauling in India...

RUSSIANS should be limited to ARMY related procurement...

He also told me how most of the new machines from US are uncommunicative with Russian systems of IAF and completley lack synergy... which is too dangerous in war...

That is your perspective. The Indian military, (army, navy, airforce), did a really good job mobilizing troops as well as equipment to Ladakh.

I don't thing the military is looking to start a conflict with Pakistan, doesn't hurt to have those assets up there though. They're a deterrent to any misadventure your side might be thinking about.

Why not ? The security challenges are real so buying whatever best is available is the only option until the local industry catches up.

The proposed AMCA is a twin engine design.

India is stuck between rock and hard place. India want to improve it's relationship with USA but not on the expense of Russia. India will eventually have to pick between Russia and USA.

Why, the cold war is history. There are a host of other areas in the defence acquisition space where India is working with the US even if an American fighter might not happen in the foreseeable future.
