Actually it's more like 3% of the population and of those (I guess) only about half care for Israel or Judaism. However, the lobby, wall street, hollywood and many organs of professionals do a nice job of keeping Israel in a favorable light in the public and Washington's eye. It's really funny you look at board of directors of any major Corporation in USA you will see what I mean CFO specifically dealing with finances and financial reporting

I was like boy for a population size of 1.5% they sure are heavily represented up in Top Board of director roles in major corporations

Israel spends a lot of money lobbying the government. Now there are lawmakers in both parties who will do anything Israel wants them to do. Recently they sponsored legislation that would make boycotting Israel a crime. A shame is what it is.
