It’s an irony that can’t be missed, a country known for its military botch ups making light of India’s responsible military restraint. A statement that has left the Indian Army outraged. United States has a history of military blunders. The embarrassing defeat in Vietnam, its failed bid to stabilise Iraq invaded on the false pretext of unearthing WMDS or in Afghanistan where US troops have been bogged down in an unequal war. The Indian military establishment is seething at America’s audacity to question the Indian Army’s military capabilities and credentials.

Most top generals TIMES NOW spoke to thought it ironical that the US with its chequered military record should think of ridiculing such a battle hardened and proven fighting force as the Indian Army. But documents of communication between Shiv Shankar Menon, the then Foreign Secretary and Richard Holbrooke clearly showing that India has been nothing but sincere in engaging its neighbour despite 26/11 and clear links between Pakistan and the attacks. But the United States on the other hand has been nothing but opportunistic in its dealings be it with India or with any other country in the world.

At a time when both the United States and India have engaged in concerted efforts to build a stronger relationship, Timothy Roemer’s statement takes us back to the Nixon – Indira era, an era of suspicion and lack of faith. As it tries to salvage its diplomatic ties with countries, even going to the extent of trying to silence the messenger, one wonders if the United States of America can really wish away the truth.

If the Generals were allowed to fart freely in the aftermath there would have defintely been a war,but it was MMS led Congress govt that kept its hand on 'u-know-where' and blocked the fart. So dont blame the Gens.

As for as the crap theory of some peaks being occupied,
read this thread and if you have some doubts lemme know.

It is not necessary to show the ignorance again and again.

Lets Afghan and Iraq war be a lesson that dependence on superior arms and numerical men does not guarantee anything.

It definitely guarantees complete destruction of enemy infrastructure and military. What it does not guarantee is the end of guerrilla warfare and peaceful occupation which I doubt is of interest in nations who do not belong to NATO.
