A US early-warning radar may soon be erected in Japan to track incoming projectiles and monitor enemy satellites, a Japanese paper revealed after China unveiled its newest ballistic missile, which puts Guam within its reach.

Washington will talk about the deployment of its Homeland Defense Radar (HDR) on Japanese soil with Tokyo, according to Yomiuri newspaper, citing sources in the US and Japanese governments. The early-warning compound would spot and track incoming ballistic projectiles, and also monitor enemy satellites in outer space.

The Yomiuri sources would not say what countries would be within reach of the radar facility, but the piece mentions the usual suspects, namely China, Russia and North Korea.

Interestingly, the publication coincided with China presenting its state-of-the-art intermediate-range ballistic missile, the Dongfeng-26 (DF-26). The new weapon has been in service with the Chinese military since April last year, but has not yet been seen in action

The DF-26 is said to have a range of between 3,000km and 5,741km (1,864 to 3,567 miles), which means that it is able to reach the US territory of Guam should war break out. There is much speculation in international media that the missile could also be used to strike US aircraft carriers at sea.

The US military had already started construction of its first HDR facility in Hawaii. Under a $585 million contract, a defense company will develop, test and assemble the radar by 2023.

The Japanese compound would reportedly become operational by 2025 and would work in conjunction with the HDR in Hawaii. However, this is not the only news on the Pentagon’s missile defense expansion that emerged in recent days.

On Tuesday, the US approved the sale of two Aegis Ashore missile-defense systems to Japan as part of a $2.15-billion deal. The Japanese Navy already has several Aegis-capable destroyers in its fleet, which are completely interoperable with similar US ships.

The deployment of Aegis Ashore systems by US allies has stirred much controversy, as its launch systems can be used to fire Tomahawk cruise missiles and other projectiles. That would effectively turn them into a potential offensive weapon.

To be honest, Japan has put East Asian in danger.

I think China should build radars on and under Pacific ocean, to protect East Asia as a whole from aggressor at other side of the earth.

With all due respects, the defensive strategy of China and Russia is a huge mistake. When an enemy who lives thousands of miles away tries to build military bases in your neighborhood to harm you then you just don't put a few missiles here and there and think you are safe. You need go after your enemy by taking the fight to his neighborhood. For God sake, get some balls and build some military bases in Venezuela, build some bases in Central America and put some nuclear missiles then you see how you enemy doesn't back off.

DEFENSIVE DOCTRINE IS A DOCTRINE OF DEFEAT. And China and Russia will face defeat soon with this doctrine and mindset.

Are you kidding?

Russia has arsenal that can touch every inch of US without having to go anywhere near them. Heck, Russia is actually closer to US than Venezuela is (Barents Sea border). They have supersonic cruise missiles, have already been working on hypersonic ones soon to be deployed, have MIRV capable ICBMs (the maximum on earth), and more weapons per capita than anything else.

On top of that, they installed a US president (as per the claims of US media) in the White House without moving a single inch anywhere in Cuba, Mexico or Canada.

What makes you think they'd need to set up bases in Latin America.

China will still never fight a hot war with US. They are going to use trade as a weapon and try to make US surrender without shooting a single bullet. Chinese have enough missiles that can reach US-mainland and now they have carrier killer missiles which can change directions mid-way.

You are mistaking these two countries with Afghanistan and Syria whose internal logistics were weak and couldn't sustain an expeditionary force from two continents away. China and Russia on the other hand have umpteen resources right on their land while an expeditionary warfare against them would be suicidal.

Tell me honestly, despite all the brouhaha of Trump, do you really think that US will actually invade Chinese mainland or use Taiwan to launch missiles or send soldiers into mainland? Taiwan would be obliterated in a rain of nothing but sub-sonic cruise missiles.

I know US is deadly when it comes to full-blown war but this will be a war where NEITHER party will be alive to enjoy victory.

US, Russia and China may bicker, pose and give statements, but they know each other too well.

US is too smart to wage a war.

Lmao, the muricans are very very scared of China and Russia. Maybe China and Russia should form a country-union, I bet muricans would die after hearing such news.
