LAHORE: American aid expert, Warren Weinstein, who was kidnapped at gunpoint from his house in Lahore has been recovered from Khushab Thursday, Geo News reported.

He was abducted on August 13 after gunmen stormed through the back door and overpowered his guards.

He was snatched at dawn in the upmarket neighbourhood of Model Town, just two days before he was due to return to the United States after more than four years in Pakistan.

Weinstein had lived in Lahore since 2006, working for J.E. Austin Associates, which recently completed a development project in tribal belt.

Police recover US national Warren Weinstein from Khushab
AP (52 minutes ago) Today
LAHORE: Police on Thursday said they had safely recovered US development expert Warren Weinstein who was kidnapped almost two weeks ago from Lahore.

Lahore police chief Malik Ahmed Raza said authorities found the 70-year-old during an early morning operation Thursday in Khushab city.

Mr Raza said authorities tracked Weinstein after obtaining leads from three arrested suspects and also by tracking mobile phone calls.

Mr Weinstein is the country director in Pakistan for J.E. Austin Associates, a US-based firm that advises a range of Pakistani business and government sectors.

Khushab is also located in Punjab province, of which Lahore is the capital.

a lot more details need to come out....where exactly was he caught; with whom was he caught; was he bound/tied up?

was there any resistance met when they found him?

it's extremely peculiar that no ransom was demanded; what was the reason for the kidnap then? It's certainly lucky that he was recovered alive. They should do health check, question him for some time to gather the facts, then send him on his way.

and it should also be ascertained why an official of the government (Punjab Law Minister) earlier claimed that this individual was engaged in "spying activity" --- if it's true, he should present any facts......but it seems so far that such is not the case.

in that case, why is this official making such statements; makes him and the government look like bigger fools

Isn't there a nuclear facility at Khushab?. Any way well done to the Police and Intelligence guys, they seem to get hold of foreign nationals, but cant free most of the Pakistani victims!

again -- why is it so complicated for these people

who announced that he had initially been found? Again, government/officials making the country look dumb.

US aid expert’s abduction: The mastermind belongs to banned outfit, say officials
Published: August 25, 2011
In a major breakthrough, spy agencies have traced the man who had masterminded the abduction of an American aid expert from an upscale neighbourhood of Lahore earlier this month.
Up to eight assailants abducted Dr Warren Weinstein, the country director for JE Austin Associates Inc, in a pre-dawn raid on his house in Model Town on August 13.
Intelligence sources told The Express Tribune that they are closing in on the mastermind who belongs to an outlawed extremist organisation. They said that other accomplices of the man are being tracked down with the help of mobile phone data records. However, they admitted that they haven’t got a clue as yet.
Police have detained five guards of Weinstein, his driver, a university student and two more people for questioning. One of them – Shaukat – is said to be prayer leader at Abu Huraira mosque sited on Sialkot Road. Some of the suspects belong to Basti Qudratabad area, in Gujranwala district, sources said.
Police and intelligence agencies are also checking different medical stores/pharmacies to find out if someone had bought medicines used by Weinstein. Sources familiar with the matter said that police and spy agencies are also conducting raids in different neighbourhoods of Lahore to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile the Lahore police chief said that Weinstein would be recovered ‘soon’. “He (Weinstein) has not been taken out of Pakistan,” Ahmed Raza Tahir told the media. “We will soon recover him.”
JE Austin Associates Inc, is an Arlington, Va-based consulting firm and has been working on a development project in the lawless tribal areas where troops have been battling insurgents for years.

This news sounds fishy. Khushab is where Pakistan has a major nuclear facility.

Foreigners shouldn't be anywhere near that town.
