WASHINGTON: A Saudi man has been arrested for allegedly buying chemicals and equipment to make a bomb and researching US targets, including the Dallas home of former president George W. Bush, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.

Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari a Saudi national who came to Texas on student visa in 2008, was arrested late Wednesday and faces charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

According to the FBI, Aldawsari wrote himself an email entitled “NICE TARGETS,” and then listed two types of targets: hydroelectric dams and nuclear power plants. In another email titled “Tyrant’s House,” he listed the address of Bush’s home.

The authorities’ affidavit also alleges that Aldawsari researched using dolls to hide explosives and concealing them in a backpack to target a nightclub.

Prosecutors said Aldawsari, who was admitted into the United States in 2008 on a student visa, posted extremist messages on a blog, vowing jihad.

“You who created mankind… grant me martyrdom for Your sake and make jihad easy for me only in Your path,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, a chemical supplier reported his suspicions about Aldawsari to the FBI, after the man tried to buy large amounts of phenol, which can be used to make explosives. He had tried to have the chemical sent to a freight company, which refused it.

Searches of his apartment uncovered chemicals, beakers and flasks, wiring and a Hazmat suit, among other items, the FBI said.

Agents also allegedly discovered a journal which revealed that Aldawsari came to the United States specifically for terror attacks.

One entry describes how Aldawsari said his scholarship “will help tremendously in providing me with the support I need for Jihad.”

”And now, after mastering the English language, learning how to build explosives and continuous planning to target the infidel Americans, it is time for Jihad,” he wrote, according to the FBI affidavit.

He was allegedly planning on renting several cars using different identifications, putting bombs in them and fleeing.

Aldawsari faces life in prison and is expected to make his first court appearance in Texas on Friday.

Alienation of muslims to be perfectly honest. Watch how much they go over this news and rinse this event. However when it was the shooting in Arizona by a white American everything was played down and they called the guy who shot the people 'mental.?' What about this guy, I dont read much about him being mentally de-ranged or any chance of him being innocent. This is not ment to be racial but its my opinion, sorry if I offend anyone.

Any info where this Saudi man get trained and brainwashed??

Saudi Arabia itself, where else?

However, the Saudi education system is subject to extensive criticism: "The country needs educated young Saudis with marketable skills and a capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship. That's not generally what Saudi Arabia's educational system delivers, steeped as it is in rote learning and religious instruction."[176]

The study of Islam dominates the Saudi educational system. In particular, the memorization by rote of large parts of the Qu'ran, its interpretation and understanding (Tafsir) and the application of Islamic tradition to everyday life is at the core of the curriculum. Religion taught in this manner is also a compulsory subject for all University students.[177] As a consequence, Saudi youth “generally lacks the education and technical skills the private sector needs”.[164]

A further criticism of the religious focus of the Saudi education system is the nature of the Wahhabi-controlled curriculum. The Islamic aspect of the Saudi national curriculum was examined in a 2006 report by Freedom House which concluded that "the Saudi public school religious curriculum continues to propagate an ideology of hate toward the “unbeliever,” that is, Christians, Jews, Shiites, Sufis, Sunni Muslims who do not follow Wahhabi doctrine, Hindus, atheists and others"[178][179] The Saudi religious studies curriculum is taught outside the Kingdom in madrasah throughout the world. Critics have described the education system as ‘medieval’ and that its primary goal ‘is to maintain the rule of absolute monarchy by casting it as the ordained protector of the faith, and that Islam is at war with other faiths and cultures’.[180]

LUBBOCK, Texas (Reuters) - A 20-year-old Saudi student accused in a bomb plot that may have targeted former President George W. Bush will plead not guilty to terrorism charges, his attorney said on Friday.

Khalid Aldawsari made an initial appearance at a federal courthouse in Lubbock after being arrested by FBI agents on Wednesday on terrorism charges involving the purchase of bomb ingredients.

Aldawsari did not enter an official plea at the appearance, which he attended with arms and legs shackled and wearing a blue jail uniform. Aldawsari will be asked to enter an official plea at a detention hearing now set for March 11.

His attorney, Rod Hobson, said he will enter a "not guilty" plea. "As an accused person, Mr. Aldawsari is presumed innocent," Hobson said in a statement distributed to reporters after the hearing.

Aldawsari's potential targets included nuclear power plants and hydroelectric dams in the West, as well as Bush's Dallas home, U.S. investigators said in court documents, citing emails they obtained.

Biased.
He was a chemical engineer.

He was a 'Jihad-Obsessed' and was having emails related to it which were caught, as said by CNN.
He replied by saying, he aint a terorist, but had the chemicals as he is studying chemical engineering.
