Every attack on a NATO/US base counts , attack near a base is a breach of the perimeter , it sets of alarms and movement of NATO personnel gets restricted, also in some attack NATO/US take casualties also but even without the casualties every attack on a base squeezes them
The Afghan insurgents seem to using clever tactics.

Pakistan is playing right into the hands of NATO. An attack from NATO on Pakistani posts is followed by a Taliban attack on NATO base within a couple days. Do you think this will not be portrayed as Taliban being the veritable arm of ISI ??

As I see it, Pakistan getting engaged in a open confrontation with NATO/US is playing into their hands. There is no military in the world that is even close to what the US is. But I think Pakistan has a lot of geopolitical & strategic leverage over the US/NATO, & can really make them feel the pain in a non-confrontational approach if it takes certain steps.

That isn't even close to the pain they could have to experience if Pakistan decided to get tough with them. Their whole WOT endeavor in Afghanistan could be dismantled & they could be sitting ducks there. Their tough posturing will slowly start to diminish if Pakistan keeps hardening its stance. Last time, it took them 11 days to apologize, let's see how long it takes this time. But this time, as I see it, a mere apology wouldn't be enough to salvage the situation.
