What's new

Unidentified Country Orders SELEX Galileo Cutting Edge Picosar AESA Radar.

well already being a co developer (to some extent)in falco i guss there is a chance we might have ordered it for domestic UAV the armed burraq or any chinese one we buy but yes again the company have other markets too so any thing is possible

There's high chance of China ordering it. While burraq is not developed yet, ordering radar without evaluating its flight performance seems funny.

Since China has been banned from getting military related technology from European countries, thus them getting an AESA radar from Italy would be not possible.

Either its some middle eastern country or may be Pakistan, but chances of that are low.

And i believe the PicoSAR can be stuffed into a Falco UAV.

yup just read my link it weighs 10 kg and payload capacity of falco is 70 kg

Maybe that radar was incorporated just to evaluate its performance and resolution of the radar. But incorporating an AESA on a MAME uav with payload of 70kg has no tactical advantage.

but selling it to some country without HALE uav test is not proper procedure ..also it not the only radar by its size it looks perfect for FALCO also bigger AESA for larger uavs r manufactured in selix

I thought AESA radar is used for better ground targeting, but Falco is not armed. So what can be the use of that radar in Falco ?

Here read the article and see for what it can be used.

It can give images of the Indian side, while flying within Pakistani airspace, provided it is procured by Pakistan. It can even help the Pakistani forces fighting the militants in the tribal areas, it has multiple uses for us.

"The high-resolution SAR, coupled with change detection, make the radar particularly useful for counter-IED missions, detecting disturbances in ground surface," Selex Galileo says. Weighing just 10kg (22lb), the sensor can produce SAR imagery in both strip and spot modes from a range of up to 20km (10.8nm), and collect ground moving target indication data. "

DSEi: Falco UAV makes first flight with PicoSAR radar

For the most compact installations PicoSAR can be mounted directly onto the platform and the beam steered electronically, or it can be mounted on a gimbal for an even greater field-of-view.
