New Delhi: In what is set to upset India, Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed who masterminded 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has been referred to as “Saheb” in a United Nations Security Council letter.
The UN missive's show of respect for Hafiz Saeed by referring to him as 'Saheb' has not gone down well with Indian government that has lodged protest against the move, reports said.
The United Nations Security Council letter, which is dated December 17 and signed by chairman Gary Quinlan, was reportedly written in response to provision of information about terrorist activities of persons slapped with UN sanctions, said a Daily Mail report.
The UN letter gaffe is another shock to India after recently a Pakistani court granted bail to another 26/11 accused and LeT commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
OutlawedJamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed is notorious for his anti-India comments, and his Twitter account was recently suspended.
Saeed, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks 2008, was quiet active on the micro-blogging site and often took to Twitter to unleash a barrage of tweets that reeked of aggressive anti-India sentiments.
Recently, Saeed blamed the Peshawar school massacre on India, while Pakistan Taliban claimed the responsibility for the same.
Saeed, has in past often accused India of planning attacks in Pakistan. Ironically, in September he also blamed India's Modi-led government of causing floods in Pakistan by unleashing “water terrorism”.
Hafiz Saeed, who is founder of banned organization Jamat-ud-Dawa, also had a bounty of $10 million imposed on his head by the US.
