The elusive commander-in-chief of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) Paresh Barua has termed as “baseless and motivated” media reports that Ulfa bought weapons from fundamentalist groups in Pakistan. “Ulfa will never involve itself with religious fundamentalists,” said an e-mail sent to HT in Barua’s name.
The militant leader's mail is a departure in the sense that earlier the mails were sourced from Arunudoy Dohutia, who handles publicity matters for the anti-talk faction.

“There is nothing new in such malicious propaganda by the colonial rulers and they will continue to propagate it in future too,” the email stated, challenging anyone, including Indian intelligence agencies, to show proof of such involvement.

On August 7, 2011, HT had reported Ulfa chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa’s statement on how fundamentalist elements from within the Pakistani establishment had started supplying weapons to the group from 1990 onwards. Rajkhowa had also said how Ulfa’s secular political ideology took a hit because of this, and it led to a disconnect with the masses.

In 1979, Rajkhowa and a few of his colleagues formed the Ulfa at Ronghor in Sivasgar to start an armed rebellion for Assam’s independence. Ever since, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 12,000 people.

Barua, along with a few hundred of armed fighters, are holding out in camps along the Myanmar-China border, steadfast in his refusal to take part in the negotiation process.

Rajkhowa and several senior Ulfa leaders have expressed their keenness for a political solution and have already submitted a framework of guidelines, which will govern the agenda of the talks being pursued by the group and the Union government.

Media reports on ULFA having taken Pak help untrue : Paresh

Guwahati, Aug 10 (PTI) Media reports quoting ULFA chairman Arabindo Rajkhowa that his outfit procured weapons and taken the help of the Pakistan government and the ISI were not true, its elusive ''command-in-chief'' Paresh Baruah said today.

"This allegation is completely baseless and such reports have been made with a purpose. It is nothing new that such malicious negative publicity is given to the ULFA, but this time chairman Rajkhowa has been quoted," Baruah said in an email to the media.

"We challenge those making such claims to prove with direct or indirect evidence that we took weapons and other help from Pakistani fundamentalists or the ISI," he said.

Stating that the ULFA did not encourage religious fundamentalists, Baruah said "since the day the ULFA started its armed struggle, such malicious campaigns have been launched against us by the colonial rulers and they will continue to do so."
ULFA ''chairman'' Arabinda Rajkhowa had yesterday in an interview to PTI here had denied that the group was backed by Pakistani Islamic fundamentalists.

Admitting that the ULFA did go to Pakistan when ''Operation Bajrang'' was launched in Assam in 1990, Rajkhowa now out on bail said, "Just because we went there, does not mean that Pakistan gave us all our weapons." PTI ESB PC

Yeah right. Believe Rajkhowa's words. Might as well believe a snake or a crawling earthworm rather than this destroyed of my beautiful northeast.

Then I guess we should disregard the statements of some BLA leader when he claims that India has nothing to do with Balochistan?

FYI Rajkhowa and Paresh Barua have no sanctuaries in India except some bordering sanctuaries near Bangladesh. They were once "strong" but after our Army sliced these losers, they're running from pillar to post getting weapons. Just two days back he was saying the opposite. What made him change the statement? A threat perhaps?

Well as Agnostic Muslim said, provide credible and neutral evidence that Pakistan supports ULFA.

Until then, the idea of Pakistan supporting the ULFA is false and a conspiracy theory.

Do you actually think that they will give a bunch of forum discussing enthusiasts a damn? The point is that Barua himself said just two days back. It is a thread running I believe in Indian section. Would you discount the same amount of suspicion for that statement as you say for this? Now obviously if this issue is between you and us (involving a terrorist organization like Baruah's) then you won't be finding such a conflict reported on NY Times.

No but IF this true then the Indian government should be able to provide credible, unbiased proof that Pakistan is supporting the ULFA, right?

But GOI has not even approached you for asking an explanation in first place. They are simply focused on ULFA. Now tell me, what enmity does Rajkhowa have with you to have accused you in first place two days back?

ive heard allegations of Pakistani hand in providing material and moral support to Khalistani nationalists.....

but ULFA? really??

next they will accuse us of supporting Bodoland and Gurkha insurrectionists as well

Bodoland is a problem with a neighboring tribe, mate. Nowhere in the radar as official terrorists. More or less gabbar singh wannabes.

And Gurkhas don't have ANY problems with being Indian. They just want a separate administrative province like your recent bill of Bahawalpur. Don't talk without any knowledge.
