Blaming the government for acting against Islam, Sammilito Olama-Mashayekh Parishad yesterday called on the ulema to launch movement from mosques of the country.

"Voice of protest should be raised from the mimbar [a pulpit in the mosque where the imam stands to deliver sermons] of every mosque to ward off the danger lurking above the country," said Maulana Muhiuddin Khan, president of the organisation at a discussion.

The dialogue was organised at city's Jatiya Press Club auditorium protesting the "anti-Islamic moves by the government."

The discussants alleged the ruling Awami League started acting against Islam since 1953 by dropping Muslim from its name.

The government's ill efforts by means of restoring secularism to the constitution, destroying religious education through new education policy, restricting mandatory use of burkha (veil) and serving interest of a neighbouring country are damaging Islam, blamed the discussants.

"We have to take to the street and be prepared for making highest sacrifice," said Maulana Muhiuddin, also the editor of monthly Madina, adding, "If necessary, we would tie shrouds in our forehead and bring out procession to sacrifice our lives."

He also mentioned that the parishad would soon announce its anti-government programme and urged the ulema to take mental preparation to make the programme a success.

Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Maulana Mohammad Ishaq, Islami Oikya Jote Secretary General Maulana Abdul Latif Khan Nejami, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Abdus Sobhan and former BNP minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin also spoke, among others.

Pure BS. The agitations never topple the government, but instead increase traffic congestion. Besides, seems like the number of unemployed people is on the rise. If they need to protest about something, then it has to be for lack of suitable jobs!

Street agitation may not topple a govt, but it disturbs public minds so much that they usually go against the sitting govt, and the govt cannot function in such a situation. I think, AL govt has gone too far with its continuous anti-Islamic actions and too much of india appeasing policy.

People did not vote for AL to do things that hurt the feelings of the population. Vote for AL was basically a negative vote against the good-for-nothing corrupt BNP govt headed by the mother of Tareque Zia. AL cannot expect to fulfil all its promises, but it should not have gone out of its way to do things that are perceived by the population as anti-islamic or as India-friendly.

In a situation as it is today, the political ball seems to be moving towards the agitating Mullahs. It seems history will keep on repeating itself in the politics of Bangladesh in the foreseeable future.

Its too early to call it a day. AL never enjoyed in its entire lifetime so much supports from Mullahs as it is enjoying now. :cheesy:

Although I hate to admit but as it seem Al got the opposition by the neck. When ever BNP take a one step forward, Al push them back to square one. Al came prepare though there always a unwanted event that can demise Al forever.

Mujib did not know his outcome but we know what happened to him though.
