Uganda plans 'Kill the Gays' bill imposing death penalty for gay sex

But Quran also says that if a Muslim convert reverts back to idolatry etc, should be killed. What kind of modern punishment do you recommend in this regard?

There are far more Muslim reverts than Muslims converting to other religions. If we punished all those Muslims who lost their faith then they probably wouldnt have reverted and become a better practicising Muslim than they ever were.

If someone converts to idolatry and they did it out of their own will, then I trust that Allah will give the appropriate punishment. We cant decide for them as their faith will always be based on ones own beliefs, environment, and circumstances; and if we punish them for it then we only end up with Muslims being forced or living in fear which is completely against the principles of Islam.

Its not good for someone to convert, but I'd rather live with that that rather than live in a community where I know my brothers and sisters are being made to practice religion against their will.

You must realize the context of time when those guidelines where given.

A harsh barbaric times.

There where no prisoners rehabilitation programs , no social workers.

As long as you try to follow religious scriptures by the letter , you would always run into trouble.

Instead one should follow the general idea of the scriptures which are timeless.

Like the general idea that we should treat one another in a kind an human way. Today society is able to be more human so not living to this potential i thunk would miss God's intention altogether.

This is exactly why state law should be separated from religious law.

Because like this this issue would not even exist. Cause it is clear the state have no business interfering with people private life as long as they do not bother others.

except for the fact that he is wrong my well-spoken bharati friend (unless Israelis have become idolators). half-read molvis are a real danger for Muslims. only maliki mazhab says kill them all if they do not recant within 10 days. others limit it to those apostates who changed sides mid-battle or in a position of power. no penalty for personal change of religion. I've done studied most of their sects (and the Quran) so I've a little bit of knowledge in this regard.

summary: in all sects/mazahib (except maliki fiqh) penalty is only for those apostates who cause wars/fight against Muslims

In Uganda, that law was introduced into the Ugandan parliament about 8 years ago. The whole western world sanctioned Uganda. It took Yuweri Musaveni, Ugandan President, to delay parliament voting for it due to severe sanctions that were coming from the West.

It looks like the bill is renewed now in the Ugandan parliament.

It is time for the middle east to follow Europe example and abolish the death sentence all together.

Putting aside that it is a cruel and immoral act , one should also realize the reality in the middle east.

and the reality is that it almost entirely composed of dictatorships that should not have this power , which time and time again they misuse to silence their opposition.

here is where the world stands today :
