The United Arab Emirates reopened on Thursday its embassy in Damascus, six years after closing it with the eruption of the country’s conflict.

The UAE broke ties with Syria in February 2012, as the repression of nationwide protests demanding regime change was escalating into a devastating war.

An acting charge d'affaires has already started working, an Emirati statement said, stressing that the UAE was "keen to put relations back on their normal track".

It said that the resumption of ties aimed to "support the sovereignty and independence of Syria" and face "the dangers of regional interferences".

The past few days have seen a flurry of diplomatic activity that looks set to continue until the next summit of the Arab League, due in Tunis in March.

“Recent discussions on this issue have not yielded a consensus," Hossam Zaki, the League's deputy secretary general, told reporters in Cairo on Monday.

"This does not rule out a possible change of the Arab position in the future," he added.

UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash stated later that Syria’s return to the Arab League “need Arab consensus.”

Moreover, he stressed that “opening channels of contact with Damascus will not leave it exposed to Iranian meddling.”

“All parties are convinced of the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis,” he added.

هل تغير موقفك من بشار ولماذا ؟؟ مش تهتم الاخوان بلتعاون مع النظام وايران؟ وهل أصبح حلال عليكم؟ يا رجل عيب إنت وياهم

A total disaster for Saudis and Emiratis.

No it isn't, they gave false impressions to their own people and demonized others for any relations with Iran or the Syrian regime but they themselves find fascination with him quelling a rebellion and see common ground as dictators. The Saudi people are confused and mislead by their government. I was saying this all along during the height of the conflict that I don't believe anything these regimes say.

When we're mentioning nationalities on PDF, we're usually referring to the respective political decision-makers. In this sense, yes, it's a gigantic defeat for the GCC. Don't get me wrong. Turkey made huge mistakes, too. But at least we're still in 'the game'.

There were two bad choices..there was Assad and there was Daesh, the GCC fought Daesh along with the international coalition.. So there is nothing more to blame the GCC for and Assad knows this..

Bashir met with Assad.

Then Syrian officials met with their Egyptian counterparts in Cairo

UAE Reopens Embassy in Damascus

Most probably MBS is trying to cozy up with Egypt and limit the Iranian influence in Syria. I would like to hear Iranians say in this issue.
There is nothing we can say there . it's between UAE and Syria and we can't meddle in their affair . as we don't let others interfere with our relation with others .
By the way our advisors are not in Syria to stay there . just like Iraq that after central government take control we pulled out them in Syria also after the situation become under control we pull out our forces unlike a certain government who have a habit of moaning about our nonexistent forces in some countries but at the same time they say they want to stay in those countries forever and building new bases there.

SubhanAllah, how they're lining up for Syria now. This is truly amazing because a regime, allegedly brutal, had the entire might of the world hell-bent against them and it still more-than survived against all odds...albeit having support from a couple of trusted allies.

I'm surprised Turkey got fooled by Obama on Syria. Then to add insult to injury, Obama tried to get your leader killed.

Turkey should break relations with the U.S. you can't trust them, period.

This is the reason we threw these mofo's out for good in 1979. They ain't never coming back.

Good, sign of ending war. I think 2019 is last year of war in Syria, and at end of new year we will see all of the Syrian soil under Syrian government control.
lucky that Syrian war longed less than 15 yrs of Lebanon civil war.
Turkey also must reopen its embassy in Damascus.
