UAE backs YPG, says terrorist organization's concerns 'legitimate'

Published 1 hour ago

The Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Anwar Gargash, said on Monday that the concerns of the countries in the region and the international community about the future of PKK-affiliated terrorist groups in Syria are "legitimate."

In a statement from his Twitter account, Gargash said "in light of the pivotal role played by the Kurds in defeating the [Daesh] terrorist organization, the regional and international concern about their fate is legitimate."

Recent media reports have been asserting that two prominent Gulf countries, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, are increasing their support to the YPG terror group in an effort to fill a power vacuum after the possible withdrawal of Washington from Syria.

The countries are also reportedly searching for ways to enhance their relations with the Bashar Assad regime. In late December, the UAE reopened its embassy in Syria's capital for the first time in seven years, a reflection of improved relations between Bashar Assad and some of his Arab foes as the war winds down.

Syria was expelled from the 22-member Arab League in 2011. Arab countries have sanctioned Damascus and condemned its use of military force against the opposition.

"The Arab interest requires dealing with the role and position of the Kurdish only in a political framework and the unity of Syrian territory," Gargash added in his tweets.

Turkey recognizes the PKK and YPG as organically linked terrorist groups and has long argued that one terrorist group cannot be defeated with another one.

The ultimate aim of the YPG is to establish an autonomous region in northern Syria by connecting the northwestern Afrin canton to the Kobani and Jazeera cantons.

The YPG terrorists, who occupy a 480-kilometer area on the Turkey-Syria border, pose a threat to Turkey's national security.

If iran is attacked then be sure turkey is next

The two horns of Satan are clear enemies to us

Turkey made a big blunder when it supported the rebellion against Bashar Al Assad. They needed him as an ally to keep Syrian Kurds in check and Iraq government as ally to keep Iraq kurds in check, lastly Iran as an ally to keep Irani kurds in check. It would have been a good alliance. Instead they supported MB for rebellion and made Egypt Syria as enemy states. Then UAE and and Saudi as regional rivals. This has isolated Turkey and made it weaker.

I hope Erdogan realises this and makes an alliance with Iran Iraq Syria Lebanon Russia China and then keeps in good terms with Saudi Egypt and UAE and slowly increase Turkey reach through Sudan Morocco Libya Algeria.

We all know Saudi Arabia claims to be the leader of the ummah and will not like this. They will use their political, wealth and religious power(through certain sect) to challenge Turkey and Iran till the end of times.

Turkey shot itself in the foot. They helped the rebels to weaken Assad and this lead to Kurds getting very powerful. Could the Turkish intelligence not see this. I respect Egyptian intelligence on this, even Morsi the then president declared we support Syrian freedom but the Egyptian military denied any support to the rebels as they knew this could happen to them. This is one of reason they removed Morsi and MB from power.

No, Turkey is keeping a balance. It has allies in most of Arab world. It only has sour relations with KSA, UAE and Egypt under the current administration.

KSA UAE and Egypt are the most powerful Arab nations.

KSA + Egypt yeah, UAE on other hand just makes a lot of noise. UAE government has a negative reputation in Arab world. Turkey not going to change anything because of this. It has ties with Qatar, Kuwait, Somali, Palestine, Syrians, Iraq, Algeria, Libya, and so on. Turkey has good reputation among Arab populace. While UAE and KSA governments have bad reputations. Egypt on other hand is same as it always been, military authoritarianism so people are neutral about them or don't see anything different to catch their attention.

You are crazy if you think Turkey will get in line behind Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. They are better off than all those countries and they have much more beneficial relations with EU/US. They're not anti-US or Israel either.
