US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi in Baghdad, during a Middle East tour, Iraq, January 9, 2019.

The United States reportedly said it would not intervene if Israel were to bomb Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

A source in the Iraqi government told the Arabic RT network, a Russian television network, on Thursday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had informed Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi that Washington would not intervene if Israel bombed bases belonging to Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

Following the remarks, RT quoted the source as saying that Abdul-Mahdi expressed his fear about the possible move and told Pompeo that if this were to happen, it will have dire and dangerous consequences for the region.

Reuters reported last year that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles to Iraq, handing over some to Shi'ite militias and was trying to develop a missile manufacturing infrastructure in the country.

It's believed Israel knows about the transference of the missiles from Iran to Iraq and has been monitoring the situation closely over the last few weeks, the source said.

Iran's Foreign Ministry denied the report, saying that "this claim is false, incorrect and ridiculous."

Pompeo responded to the issue on his Twitter account saying that he is "very concerned about the report that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Iraqi soil.

"If this is true, it is a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty and of the UN Security Council resolution, and Baghdad must decide what is happening in its territory - not Tehran," he said.

Tell us something we don't know ? ... Jews in America are just too powerful, no Govt or Pentagon just can't go against the Interest of Jews or Israel .

Iraq is more complicated for Israel to attack because it's further than Syria and Iran has more power in Iraq than Syria as a result.

Also the Americans in Iraq won't let Israel attack Iraq because they will be the ones to suffer the consequences.

hehehehe......The resistance is getting larger and larger every day. Iraqi PMU's, Nujaiba, Iraqi Hezb, Badr, Hashd Al-Shaabi and a dozen other organizations now number in the hundreds of thousands. The Zio's are panicking.

Shia militias in Iraq don’t posses any threat to Israel also I don’t think the useless Iraqi government will do anything to Israel if they attack
How can you say they dont pose a threat when some of them are available "manpower"that can be "relocated" to wherever location in the ME they are needed? I'm not saying i dont agree with you, im just saying thats not the only realistic scenario. Shia militias in Iraq = good # of auxillary ground troops. Militarily, that has value. But Israel wont be able to do serious damage to them though. They arent foot soldiers following Iraqi Baath orders.

That's why Iraq needs to proceed with the S-400 buy and expand the air force with more fighter jets to establish airspace denial zones. The Pantsir S1's are not enough.

Although this is unlikely to happen for several reasons, the PMU is large and spread over Iraq. Attacking them won't have any significant impact unless on a large scale, the US would suffer from that so they won't let it happen.

Isn't PMU a part of your army?

I think jews feel the threat from the greater part of nation of muslims to have been quelled. Now they will slowly start snaking towards greater Israel. From Nile to Euphrates(maybe even Tigris if they feel like it).

No it's a part of the ministry of interior alongside the police, federal police and emergency response division

Army, ISOF, navy and air force are under the defense ministry.

All separate organkzorgani, PMU is no longer a milotia though they're part of the state security forces

You think you can scratch the US?
Iraq can force the US to cease operations in Iraq as a partner. Unlessthe US will declare war again.

PMU is embedded with the army, if Israel attacks them the US will be held accountable for ignoring the airspace violation in attacks on the ISF. US won't let Israel do this

Iran is arming PMU in order to force its role in Iraqi politics. Without those militias their role in Iraqi politics will decrease. PMU is playing along because their leadership gets wealthy and they provide many salary's to ordinary members. I don't see them threatening Israel besides in rhetoric. The main two purposes of arming is to get justification to continue to exist as military force outside of the government/state military and for Iran to threaten Saudi Arabia.
