"We will keep putting you in your place"
FM Çavuşoğlu to MP Krimi;
" - I can understand why Ms. Sonia is shocked. Because France and the countries like France are used to one thing; They will behave bossy, they will criticize other countries, humiliate them, they will make decisions as they want but when Turkey or some other country criticize them they feel shocked.
You are trying to lecture us about international law and rule of law, you are talking about the democrasy and freedom of speech but you can't even tolerate what we are saying.
( Asking to Sonia Krimi ) Is it not contradicting Macron's decision with French constitution? Is it not against European court of human rights? Yes it is.
Is making decision of a historical event as a genocide or not politicians' duty? Did you read the decision of the UN? You are talking about international law and system; It's clearly written there what's the needings to define a historical event as a genocide thus politicians have no right to make such a decisions.
You politicans have no right to make such decision. Having an idea is one thing, making a decision is another.
By what limited knowledge on history you dare to make such a decision? There is only one reason to do that which is populism. Unfortunately your president also fell into this mistake.
Furthermore, France is the last country to say a word on history and genocide. We didn't forget what happened in Ruanda and Algeira.
France should look into its own dark history first. Don't try to lecture us. You can keep looking down on us, we also keep putting you in your place.
It's not old Turkey anymore. You will always get the answer you deserve. "

Populism lies behind remarks made by French politicians on the issue regarding the Ottoman Armenian population and incidents during World War I, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on April 12.
“France is the last country which can lecture Turkey on genocide and history,” Çavuşoğlusaid at a NATO parliamentary assembly in the Mediterranean province of Antalya, in response to a statement by French deputy Sonia Krimi.
“France should mind its own dark history in Rwanda and Algeria,” he added.
Recalling French President Emmanuel Macron’s declaration of April 24 as a day to commemorate what Armenians call the Armenian Genocide, Çavuşoğlu said: “There is only one reason behind making such a decision in the absence of adequate information: It is populism. Unfortunately your president has succumbed to populism.”
Krimi said she was “shocked” by Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop’s words against steps taken by the Italian parliament and the French president on the 1915 killings.
