Turkey will never recognize the annexation of Crimea, the country's parliamentary committee on foreign affairs head said on Wednesday.

During a meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Andrii Sybiha, Volkan Bozkir said Turkey always respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"I want to repeat once again that we have never recognized, and will never recognize the annexation of Crimea," said Bozkir.

He noted that they will continue their effort to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.

Russia annexed Crimea after a controversial referendum in 2014.

Turkey, as well as the UN General Assembly, viewed the annexation illegal.

Ukraine has also blamed Kremlin for separatist violence in eastern Ukraine, near the border with Russia.

Turkey has good relation with Russia and Ukraine. They pay some lip service but otherwise stay neutral.

in fact the selcuks of rum even had colonies in crimea

Tatars came not with the Mongol invasion. There are graves of Kipchak (Tatar) warriors in Crimea older than Slavic conquest.

Most of world doesn't recognize the accession of Crimea into the Russian federation, even though it is much more legal than Hawaii's annexation by the USA.

Crimea was Muslim Tatar before the Russians came.

First Russian principality in the Eastern Crimea dating 10 ct. - Tmutarakan' Principality. Scythians as ancestors (or one of ancestors) of Slavic tribes lived there since 7 ct. B.C.

Crimea is the home of Turkic Muslim Tartars. They were ethnically cleansed by Imperial Russia and thrn forcibly relocated by the Soviet Union, and replaced with ethnic Russians. The last Tartar Khan got refuge in Istanbul and many Tartars fled to the Ottoman Empire/Turkey. This is obviously an important issue for Turkey still. Having said that Turkeys refusal to recognize the Russian annexation of Crimea wont affect Russo Turkish relations as they stand. Most of the world doesnt recognize it either.
