Woman who fell in well yet to be saved

TAIF: Rescue efforts are continuing to save a woman who fell inside a 50-meter-deep bore well in Taif seven days ago. An international company is now constructing another well nearby, but a huge rock has obstructed work at a depth of 18 meters.

According to informed sources, the company has stopped work on digging the second well, adding that this will delay the rescue of the woman, who has a child. The sources said it would take at least two more days to complete digging work for the new well.

The 29-year-old woman fell in the well while she was returning from an outing with relatives, said Salman Al-Otaibi, her husband who works in Jeddah. Al-Otaibi said he rushed to Taif soon after hearing about the incident.

Rescuers from the Civil Defense have been battling since Sunday night to rescue the woman from the well near the mountainous town of Shenaif, northeast of Taif, not far from her house.

People in the area have been anxiously waiting to see the woman rescued while many of them have lost hope because of the delay. Maj. Gen. Adel Zamzami, director of the Civil Defense in Makkah, has inspected the site of the well.

According to Lt. Col. Khaled Al-Qahtani, spokesman for the Taif Civil Defense, the 40-cm diameter artesian well is full of water, making the rescue all the more difficult.

When initial attempts to manually lift the woman out failed, the Civil Defense brought in advanced detection and rescue devices. Attempts to determine the exact location of the woman with the help of a thermal camera also failed.

Civil Defense officials have been consulting well experts to find a way to rescue the woman. According to one source, Saudi Aramco would take over digging the well near the well from the international company after conducting necessary studies about the area’s geography.

Director of the Civil Defense in Taif Brig. Muhammad Al-Shehri is supervising the rescue operation.

What about cold, and eerie?

Wont she have problems in breathing, and communicating?
She cant see whats around so how can she eat the food dent down?

 Taif woman’s body buried

JEDDAH: The body of a young woman who drowned in a bore well on the outskirts of Shenaif town near Taif was buried in the Umm Al-Dowaim Cemetery in the presence of a huge crowd on Friday.

Funeral prayers were first offered at the Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas mosque in Taif and then again near the burial ground. The coroner’s report said the death occurred by drowning and ruled out any foul play.

Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al-Obeikan, an adviser to the Royal Court, said the woman, called Munirah, was a martyr and quoted a saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that anyone who died by drowning is a martyr.

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal called the woman’s relatives to convey his condolences. Spokesman for Taif police Maj. Turki Al-Shehri also offered condolences on behalf of the police

Munirah’s body was retrieved 12 days after she fell into the 40 cm diameter well. The narrow mouth of the well made rescue extremely difficult.

Taif municipality and Civil Defense have started to fill the well. Two other wells dug nearby to reach her body are also being filled.

“Over the past many years, the Civil Defense have been striving to persuade tribal chiefs to put lids over wells and build protective walls around them,” Lt. Col. Khaled Al-Qahtani said.

Al-Qahtani urged well owners in Taif to take necessary steps to cover their wells so they do not pose any harm to people. He added that his department sometimes find it difficult to locate the owners of wells in remote areas.

More than 100 officers and other rescue officials participated in the 12-day operation, which was supervised by Director of the Civil Defense in Makkah, Maj. Gen. Adil Zamzami.

The Civil Defense also sought the advice of experts from Saudi Aramco and the Saudi Geological Survey in a bid to save the woman. As direct access to the well was impossible, two other wells were dug a couple of meters away from the old well so that rescuers could get close to her body.

I heard the news before, but didnt feel like sharing it.
May Allah bless her with Jannah, and give patience to her relations.

Ameen.

btw another thing got my attention,

Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al-Obeikan, an adviser to the Royal Court, said the woman, called Munirah, was a martyr and quoted a saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that anyone who died by drowning is a martyr.

is that so?

This and many other similar incidents show how backward we are in certain technologies....
Humans have technology to go to the moon but lack the ability to dig deep underground fast enough to rescue somebody..This is not the first..
Usually if somebody is trapped underground for any reason, they cant be rescued in time to save them..The technology doesn't exist...
