Catch Kerala CM at work
live on Internet
TRIVANDRUM - By a click of the mouse, people from anywhere in the world can see Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at work.
A live webcast from the Chief Ministers chamber in the secretariat here began on Friday. Chandy will be available online in his website, <http://www.keralacm.gov.in/>Kerala Chief Minister, as long as he is in his chamber. The website also shows his office.
The cabinet briefings by the chief minister and the meetings and the conferences he addresses at his office will also be webcast. All important documents related to the government can also be accessed by people from the site.
The CMs office works 24x7. The website allows people to submit their complaints to the chief minister and track the progress. People can also report the happenings around them requiring the attention of the government to Chandy through the website.
The facility, the first of its kind in India, was launched during his last term in 2005-06 but it was discontinued after V S Achuthanandan assumed office. The government had promised to reintroduce it under the 100 days programme announced by Chandy soon after assuming office.
It is part of the governments policy to make the governance transparent with the help of modern technology. The chief minister has been using the video conferencing facility to interact with officials and people not only in the state but also outside.
He interacted with non-resident Keralites in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, who were duped by a realty firm in Cochin, and promised to make arrangements to pursue their cases without coming all the way to the state.
Chandy has promised to use the video conferencing facility on a regular basis as it would help in saving money and energy besides fast decision making. During his last term, the chief minister had tried to reach out to the people by traversing the length and bread of the state.
This time he has cut down his travels and official functions in order to be available in his office to attend to larger policy matters. Chandy, who likes to be seen in the middle of the people, especially common men, will continue his contacts with the people through web tools.
Chandys aides said that the chief minister was keen that the people should see what is happening in his office. They can see what he is doing and who are all visiting him in his office. None will be able to visit the chief minister secretly now, a close aide of the Chief Minister said.
Besides the e-governance initiatives, the chief minister and his colleagues have agreed to declare their assets each year. The details of the assets of the ministers, their family members and personal staff would be posted on the government website.
