This is an information pool thread to help each other in making transition to a manufacturing and export based economy.

Both importers and exports please report in.

Importers please post the list of products you imported to Pakistan and were profitable this will help manufactures to target production of those products.

Manufactures please list products you are manufacturing in Pakistan so that exporters can find your products and find over sea customers for them.

Pakistan can build and maintain a really big Fish, Poultry , Livestock & Agriculture Industry .
Pakistan do have natural resources as well as land resources to do that.
Pakistan once dominated market in Leather & clothes because of the quality, craftsman ship but they have lost that.
Regarding edible oil i find it strange that just with little work Pakistan can use olive oil, corn oil so whats the point of importing it.

For Future Pakistan needs to find a balance Between going Mechanical Industry & and Food industry
Set Areas for selective purpose and Build around that.
Re check the natural resources they have and invest in them build industry.
Pakistan needs a network which can rapidly take items from small villages ( good price ) bring them to big cities , transport that to National ( AIR , Land , SEA ) hubs to ship around the Globe.

Apparently saffron is grown in Balochistan. Saffron is very expensive, we should farm and export that, especially to the middle east.

Just block smuggling to 100% economy will revolutionize.
Whereas situation is visit any small grocery shop, half of it is full of Indian products.

Next ban Indian movies, they steal $million daily out of Pakistan. aur is ke liye 100 din bhi nahi chahiey.

Last but not least ye govt. sab ko mamoo nahi bana sakti

Smuggling is state sponsored in Pakistan.
If you risk to loose some profit with my revelation than i have no sympathies for your loss.

@BHarwana

You pointed out very good things I will discuss this sometime later and tag you let's first build some data and then discuss the appropriate path.

problem is what to export, we need to accept one thing, we have to restart from zero due to destruction led democrasy especially last 5 years

these are the areas where we already had some experience
  1. so textiles, but textile is cut throat competition, you have an advantage, raw material is either inpakistan or near Pakistan
  2. rice
  3. IT sector/services
  4. pharmaceuticals
  5. construction material
  6. halal meat, fish
  7. vegetables/fruits
  8. sports and leather
these are areas which are new entries and have huge potential
  1. chemicals
  2. oil sector
  3. gems
  4. gold, copper and chromium and marble
  5. engnr goods
we need to talka bout import subsitution, like why do we still import vegetable oil, tea, milk and pulses? this worth 4 billlion dollars, and 4 billion worth of refined oil, govt levied a tax for refinery which last govt ate without doing anything

Mercenaries are in great demand all over the world and major powers are always looking for ways to get some good ones to use against their opponents without they being caught.

What does not Pakistan look into this aspect. There are billions to be made in this business and Pakistan can get rich in just few years.

We can make the most impact in a short order of time by identify our inefficiencies in production of raw materials, so we can increase yield and bring down unit costs of our raw material inputs.

These inputs can be put through factories from private investors with fixed contracts for foreign markets as they do in Bangladesh or Vietnam.

Getting our goods to market as cheaply and quickly as possible will also open up new industries like Flowers. Building a train line off of Main Line 1 (where flower grown in Central and Northern Pakistan can be moved from) at Multan and linking to Dalbaddin and on to the Iranian Border will allow fast shipment to the European Market via Iran and Turkey in Refrigerated trains.

We should look at products the mid-east and East Africa imports can try to fill in those niches with our cheaper labor force, and home grown raw materials. Organic Food Products, Medical Products (we already make great surgical equipment in Sialkot and Should build up that industry), now that we are getting another refinery, we can build up our plastics industry along the coast to export back to the middle eastern nations.

Also try to do everything planned in the Saudi NEOM Plan: BioTech, Digital Services (Our Young People can learn the languages of the various market countries can cater to their needs), Research into better managing our own resources like water and food and marketing the products to the rest of the world. Our Media companies with our Desi Background but also our Islamic background can do something similar to the Turkish Dramas popular around the world.

Also Engineering products to do what other products do (same quality), but customized to our needs and at a lower price, can win buyers in Lower and Middle Income countries, of which there will be more of in the future then the expected growth in the developed nations. An example of this is the Czech Bren Rifle the Pakistan Army is testing for its Future Rifle Requirement. It offers the same capabilities as other guns, it is being customized for the PA's Requirement, and will come at a cheaper price then HK products for instance.

We should see what other people are buying and how we can beat the current suppliers with more customized products for those markets at a cheaper price.

Approached a Pakistani company last year for a bulk order of textile products. Found the experience horrible. Over priced without any assurances. Got it cheaper and quicker with Bangladesh company. Pakistan really needs to focus on ease of business and teach businesses how to export at competitive prices rather than take a quick buck and overcharge.

the easiest route is to export textiles. it is labor intensive. it will employ lots of people. the technology is already present.
