I recall when the Chinese state-run propaganda TV used the original Top Gun dogfight scene in a newsreel to push their propaganda. Telling the Chinese people that was a live-action reel of their aircraft shooting the enemy aircraft. Do you remember that?

Secondly, one cannot surprise F-35 variants in WVR combat situations due to its cutting-edge EODAS sensor netting - the pilot receive a 360 degree EO/IR view of developments around him on a continous basis. Therefore, TOP GUN with F-35 variants would be almost boring in terms of creating DRAMA in a film.
