Visual Defense Inc (VDI), the Canadian firm, to whom the Cabinet Economic Affairs Committee decided in principle to award contract for enhancing the security of Shahjalal International Airport (SIA), will charge US$ 35 (approx, Tk 2730) from each outgoing passenger.

  • The VDI will be appointed without any tender as the government received its offer on unsolicited basis.
  • The VDI will need to invest about US$ 40 million (about Tk 280 crore) to implement the project under the build-maintain-transfer (BMT) system.
  • Visual Defense Incorporation (VDI), a Canadian company, has been entrusted with the task of security checking at Hazrat Shahjalal international Airport for a fee of USD 35 per outgoing passenger.
  • According to CAAB statistics VDI would be able to collect Tk 934.31 a year for 25 years. So VDI will collect total of Tk 23357.80 crore by that account.
  • 23357 crore taka return for 280 crore investment, that is 83 times more return than what would be invested.

Really?????????

Why do you try to find out corruption in everything??????

Even if something is pure as 24 caret Gold.

Let me spoon feed you, but don't make it a habit. :disagree:

IGI Airport in Delhi have US$ 26 surcharge as Development Fee for every passenger and this Delhi Airport is not developed by any canadian or foreign company but by a 100% Indian company.

IGI Airport at Delhi is the busiest Airport in whole of South Asia even more busy then Mumbai Airport.

IGI Airport handled an average of 741 flights each day in 2010.

I am sure its a 100 times more then the traffic at your Shahjalal International Airport.

In simple words IGI Airport have US$ 26 because it recovers from huge traffic but SIA in Bangladesh have low traffic that why it have US$ 35 as a fee.

Huge volume = cheaper

Less volume = costly.

Its like if you purchase 1 kg of potato it will be costly but if you purchase 100 Kg it will be cheaper. :P

So no corruption its a normal practice all over the world.
