Credit Suisse calculated the average wealth of each adult in the largest countries world-wide.

The Credit Suisse Research Institute, a think tank within the Swiss investment bank Credit Suisse, in October published its annual global wealth report. That report estimates the wealth holdings of households around the world, to show wealth distribution across countries.

Then, the personal-finance website HowMuch.net used those findings to create a color-coded map of wealth across the world.

The result: Iceland, Greenland, Canada, the U.S. and many countries in Europe are literally “in the green” on the map — meaning the average net worth per adult is at least $100,000. (To determine net worth, Credit Suisse calculated the market value of all assets for individuals, minus outstanding debts.)

The average net worth in Iceland is a stunning $555,700 per adult. Switzerland boasted almost as much: $530,200 per adult.

In the U.S., average net worth per adult is $404,000. The country’s high average consumer and student-loan debts are likely offset by the high average wealth of many.

The median American household currently holds just $11,700 in savings, according to a recent analysis of Federal Reserve and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data by personal-finance site Magnify Money. The top 1% of households in the U.S. by income have a median savings of $1.1 million across a variety of saving accounts.

The wealth gap in the U.S. has increased over time. In 2015, the top 1% of Americans made 26.3 times as much income as the bottom 99 percent — an increase from 2013, when they earned 25.3 times as much, according to a recent study released by the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning Washington, D.C., think tank.

And several countries, including Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique and Madagascar are on the opposite end of the wealth spectrum. The average wealth per adult in Ethiopia is just $167, Credit Suisse found.

If current trends in wealth inequality continue, the richest 1% across the globe will control nearly 66% of world’s money by 2030, according to the U.K.-based House of Commons Library.

#FAKENEWS,

Pakistanis are wealthier than Indians.

True.

The map quotes the credit suisse report but misreported the findings.

The very report linked in the article states Pakistan’s wealth per adult to be FAR higher than poor, backward india’s

Median wealth per adult:

India: $1,289
Pakistan: $1,711

Click it and read it for yourself

Secondly, and most importantly, this particular credit Suisse report is very whack and downright unreliable.

For example, Median wealth per adult in 2017 for Pakistan was: $3,338

And now all of a sudden---boom! our median wealth has gone by almost 50%? HOW?

Did we suffer a massive pre-WW2 like economic depression that we aren't aware of?!

Wouldn't take this report seriously. Seems like some butthurt indian fugding with numbers just like they do it on wikipedia

Credit Suisse 2017 published report (all the numbers are pretty in line with their 2015, 2016 figures---hence further proving that 2018's edition is massively flawed either by mistake (happens) or by intentional number fudging :) In any case, hopefully, Credit Suisse comes out clean on this)
