Ouch,hard to believe this is occurring right in my neck of the woods,and the worst part one of distant family friend has worked at that specific Hospital,Elmhurst for 4 decades and yesterday hearing of a 48 year old RN dying at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and at Elmhurst 13 died its surreal it's all happening in place you not far from,I often take the 7 Train and see the hospital on commute anyways kudos to all the Health service workers,Doctors for being on the front lines of this deadly virus

I dont know man looks pretty unresponsible to me.

The US wasnt really taking any serious precautions when Europe was already knee deep in it, US has extensive Airtravel with Asia and Europe so it was only a matter of time, i wonder what made them think they are safe over there.
So the point of wasted time still stands if you ask me.

Look if Trump (he made plenty of spoken goofs on this too, not excusing that, though its multi-info stream developing situation too back then) truly believed it to be a "hoax" in literal sense...he wouldnt have shut down travel with China on jan 31st...i.e it would have reflected in policy (and I generally judge policy esp when connected to executive directly, first...well before political talking).

In fact if say Italy/EU hypothetically did the same around same time, that would have been far less casualties they experienced, thats a fact.

How much and details regarding this i.e post-crisis analysis with relevant big data can only be done much later when we have resource and time for it.

Lot of the bad issue in general is big govt lever malaise (combined with globalism inertia in lot of how world operates today as default).

China's "official" numbers are absolute horses**t.

So enlighten us as to why it matters if so many are ultimately infected in China, USA or anywhere else.

A majority of people need to get infected eventually. This establishes herd immunity. Whether it occurs overtly or covertly is not of primary importance as long as it happens. What sensible governments are trying to do is to SLOW the rate of spread to the same ultimate end point to preserve resources to care for the severely ill. UK is doing reasonably well, as did China and Korea because of aggressive, early testing and contact tracing and isolation protocols. USA is at war with itself because of conflicting narratives from Trump and his health chiefs. If everyone isn't on the same page, inevitably the response will be disjointed.

I just saw the spread rate in the US, Trump screwed big time by wasting valuable weeks with denying that the virus even exists. And then couple more weeks with downplaying it.

It looks like to be the first country to surpass China even before Italy in a matter of hours, thats just crazy, UK following the same path. Once again we can see the effects of people in charge whose IQ is below the room temperature...

It is a massive betrayal.

In my culture when someone dies they take the body to the burial ground with music which is called as "paraioli"....so even if you are say a km away you can still hear the sound of the procession ...this video is the "paraioli"... its a km away here in india and its getting louder by the hour.
