What's new

The world is lurching towards the U.S

History tells us that countries that have experienced difficult relationships with the U.S., even after a long period has passed, that they eventually lurch towards America once things normalize.

History also shows that they will disregard the other powers they have been embedded with, and during their history of turmoil with the U.S, to prefer to move towards us.
sincerely hope all muricans think this way.
it'll make the chinese mission of surpassing US much, MUCH easier....

I think any country like any person would not like to be enemy with anyone else. We are all people and there is no reason to be hostile to each other if we do not have very good reason to.

Now that US decided not to be hostile to Cuba anymore because, in the word of Obama, 'These 50 years have shown that isolation has not worked' and decided to thrown in the towel.

And Cuba being sane, decided to accept it (Can this be described as lurching towards?)

And somehow this is a victory for US?

Absolutely -- it is.

The idea is to have cumulative victories that eventually lead to the final victory. Look at the spectacular and ignoble collapse of the Soviet Union for the best example. After that, it is your China that for all practical purposes, abandoned Marxism and gave the world the next best example. Obama is wrong. Isolation worked. The idea was never about having Cuba as a functional democratic country, although that make good PR, but about having Cuba being a non-threat. Isolation worked well over the decades that despite the Bay of Pigs fiasco, Cuba remained a non-threat. Now it is time to make Cuba the next unofficial US state and if it is not Obama, it will be another US President who will make the transition.

We won. :enjoy:

2015 is all about China my friends. The west looks to the US, but we all know that after President Putin's miscalculations and India's sluggish performance in 2014, the BRIC partners and beyond all look towards the economic power house of Asia and that is China.

Another interesting fact, China has been working with both previous and current regimes in Afghanistan to establish a foothold on copper mines in the country. The Chinese have a strong foothold in Logar province now, and the US/NATO.ISAF are furious that they have been footing the bill to secure Mes Aynak whilst the Chinese have been quietly building roads, leasing trucks from Pakistan and mining copper as per their cooperative agreement.

Whilst the US and her allies have exhausted their options in Afghanistan, the Chinese have been quietly working on their plan to secure what is referred to in analyst circles as the "Tripod" a cooperative agreement between China, Pakistan and Afghanistan to create a forum to foster peace talks, trade and cooperation.

This "North, South" corridor will include rebuilding the Silk route a project with an estimated cost of over $100 billion. The Chinese have already established close links with local tribal elders, government functionaries in Afghanistan and have been eyeing the region as part of their greater scheme to build a power-pipe line stretching from China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and 2000 miles beyond.

SURPRISED to see emerging global challengers having millions of their own citizens wanting to move to the U.S?

Perhaps, you can enlighten us with fact of world opinion on US and its policy; what percentage have negative opinion about US. Here is some crush course data for you."world is lurching towards the U.S" is good typical US propaganda line but further from truth.

Now for Cuban embargo (same goes for Iran), US is forced to recognize that embargo was a failed bully tactics. But in the process, US had cost Cuba and other countries hundreds of billions and millions of life by direct and indirect killing. What about reparation for all these death and destruction by US and its policy?

C'mon, after Khrushchev back down in the Cuban missile crisis 52 years ago, would the tiny Cuba still be a threat to the US?

For the last 50 years, the Cuban did not gave in. They might be going for some reform recently, but that is of their own volition, not because of US sanction. They would have done it sanction or not sanction.

US sanction Cuba for 50 years. US could have call it off anytime after the Cold war, but you didn't. The Cuban has suffered for 50 years, all for nothing. Others might call that as just bullying out of petty bitterness.

I can see that you are thinking in dogmatic cold war ideological terms. Have it ever occur to you that maybe political ideology are a means to an end, not the end itself.

What in the world are you talking about ? Did you missed the news about Cubans risked lives in rickety home made rafts to float to the US (Florida) ? The Cubans gave but it was their government that refuses to admit the fact that Cuba lost in more ways than one.

And what is wrong with thinking in ideological terms ? I have said it many times before: That we do not live our lives in moral and intellectual vacuum.

My ideology serves as foundation for my political morality. So do you if you have any ideology at all. Do you ?

You talk as if somehow it is a right to trade with US. Clue for you, it is NOT such a right. Trade is a privilege, not a right. At best, you have the right to propose a trade relationship with me, but that is the extent of it. If I chose not to have such a relationship, too bad for you. Further, despite the fact that the US chose not to have a trade relationship with Cuba, that have not prevented Canada and others in the Western Hemisphere to trade with Cuba. So please spare US the false sob story about poor Cuba.

The US as a global superpower, sanction a tiny island nation such that some of her citizen has to risk their life in home made raft to look for better economic opportunity in the US.

And you really proud of that?

Mind you, despite the sanction, Cuba has a much better HDI ranking then many democratic country and all of the BRICS countries. Imagine what they could have achieve without US bullying.

Obama will move as soon as next month to defang the 54-year-old American trade embargo against Cuba, using broad executive power to defy critics in Congress and lift restrictions on travel, commerce and financial activities.

The moves are only the beginning of what White House officials and foreign policy experts describe as a sweeping set of changes that Mr. Obama can make on his own to re-establish commercial and diplomatic ties with Cuba

I'd predict that U.S. in under 10 years will move towards having a good relationship with Iran, and with a couple of those within Latin American that seem to be acting as irritants.

History tells us that countries that have experienced difficult relationships with the U.S., even after a long period has passed, that they eventually lurch towards America once things normalize.

History also shows that they will disregard the other powers they have been embedded with, and during their history of turmoil with the U.S, to prefer to move towards us.

This is completely logical given that a majority of the world's citizens up for relocation, would say that they would love to come live within our borders, and if that were not possible, they would hope their country had the freedoms, rights and standards afforded to them just like in America.

Now we are not prefect but we are darn near it.
Have you ever heard of people say 'we would like our country to emulate the lives of citizens within a dictatorial, communists or pseudo democratic country?'

Do you wake up thinking, 'how cool would it be to live in a country where some form of communism or pseudo democracy were in place?' Where we are told what to read, how to act, where journalists were thrown in jail, dissent was not tolerated, freedom of press to protect civilians rights did not exist or any religious freedoms?

About 13% of the world's adults -- or more than 640 million people -- say they would like to leave their country permanently. Roughly 150 million of them say they would like to move to the U.S

It is well known that Marxist economic policies are the true causes of poverty rather than sanctions from America. Did you know that during the Cold War, the US sanctioned the Soviet Union ? We had an extremely limited trade relationship with the Soviets and we would punish any US company that we caught dealing with the Soviets without our permission. Are you going to blame US for the collapse of the Soviet Union ?

And you really proud of that?
Yes. Marxism should be wiped out. The only Marxist society I approve is the monastery, which includes the nunnery.

Mind you, despite the sanction, Cuba has a much better HDI ranking then many democratic country and all of the BRICS countries. Imagine what they could have achieve without US bullying.
We -- including you -- do not have to imagine. Just look at Puerto Rico.

It was, is and should hopefully remain.. the land of opportunity for all Mankind.

Give me your tired, your poor,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

Much easier at doing what?

Getting people to have a change of heart from striving to be a country that has our way of life, to accepting yours?

Are they going to wake up one morning and say, 'Would it not be cool to be told what news we can consume, have access to, or where being thrown into labor camps with no access to courts is desired. Where dissenters are thrown into jail under false pretext, where there is no freedom of the press, or where people's religious institutions are destroyed?'

You think the Iranians, Pakistanis, Syrian and N Korean people cherish to have your form freedoms/rights as a citizen?

Can you name me one country that lurches towards you and will continue to do so the day they get into our good books?

Or did you mean in economic terms, where you are still called an underdeveloped country while achieving a numerical position of being the no 2 GDP in the world. Where this no 2 GDP status still sees more than half of your country living in abject poverty and a per capita income that is near 1/8th of the U.S.

You guys brag a lot here against us. Please don't take us ignoring you as some form of agreement. We just chalk it up as the attitude shown by the 'new rich'. You got a few bucks in your pocket now and somehow the hillbillies think they've become blue bloods.

And which country did you come seeking to make your future within? What difference did your negative attitude towards us make, when it came to seeking a future for yourself? Did we twist your arm to come here. I see that you lurched towards my country.

The only negative here is that we allowed yet another person whose contributions towards us will be suspect. .

LOL @ showing me a negative views chart. Go research views from Europe, Japan, Vietnam, Cuba,, Libya, Iraq,. Sudan, a host of ex USSR nations- what their views were about us before they all lurched towards America.

who was responsible for bad relationship with Cuba, Iran, North Korea

They are when they chose to go down the path where many among those countries you cited- had the UN and all the members of its permanent security council approve many of the sanctions in place.

And?
Afghanistan recently signed a deal that lurches even more Pro America. A deal that see's our military having permanent bases, close to 10,000 of our soldiers lodged there, CIA and other institutions sitting within Afghanistan into perpetuity. They lurched towards America.
