The US is not and never will be at war with Islam: Barack Obama

US President Barack Obama writes exclusively for TOI: On this 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, we remember that 9/11 was not only an attack on the United States, it was an attack on the world and on the humanity and hopes that we share.

We remember that among the nearly 3,000 innocent people lost that day were hundreds of citizens from more than 90 nations. They were men and women, young and old, of many races and faiths. On this solemn anniversary, we join with their families and nations in honoring their memory.

We remember with gratitude how ten years ago the world came together as one. Around the globe, entire cities came to a standstill for moments of silence. People offered their prayers in churches, mosques, synagogues and other places of worship. And those of us in the United States will never forget how people in every corner of the world stood with us in solidarity in candlelight vigils and among the seas of flowers placed at our embassies.

We remember that in the weeks after 9/11, we acted as an international community. As part of a broad coalition, we drove al-Qaida from its training camps in Afghanistan, toppled the Taliban, and gave the Afghan people a chance to live free from terror. However, the years that followed were difficult and the spirit of global partnership we felt after 9/11 frayed.

As President, I've worked to renew the global cooperation we need to meet the full breadth of global challenges that we face. Through a new era of engagement, we've forged partnerships with nations and peoples based on mutual interest and mutual respect.

As an international community, we have shown that terrorists are no match for the strength and resilience of our citizens. I've made it clear that the United States is not and never will be at war with Islam. Rather, with allies and partners we are united against al-Qaida, which has attacked dozens of countries and killed tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children - the vast majority of them Muslims. This week, we remember all the victims of al-Qaida and the courage and resilience with which their families and fellow citizens have persevered, from the Middle East to Europe, from Africa to Asia.

Working together, we have disrupted al-Qaida plots, eliminated Osama bin Laden and much of his leadership, and put al-Qaida on the path to defeat. Meanwhile, people across the Middle East and North Africa are showing that the surest path to justice and dignity is the moral force of non-violence, not mindless terrorism and violence. It is clear that violent extremists are being left behind and that the future belongs to those who want to build, not destroy.

To nations and people seeking a future of peace and prosperity - you have a partner in the United States. For even as we confront economic challenges at home, the United States will continue to play a unique leadership role in the world. As we remove the rest of our troops from Iraq and transfer responsibility in Afghanistan, we will support Iraqis and Afghans in their efforts to deliver security and opportunity for their people. In the Arab world and beyond, we will stand up for the dignity and universal rights of all human beings.

Around the world, we will continue the hard work of pursuing peace, promoting the development that lifts people from poverty, and advancing the food security, health and good governance that unleashes the potential of citizens and societies.

At the same time, we have recommitted ourselves to living our values at home. As a nation of immigrants, the United States welcomes people from every country and culture. These newest Americans-like all the innocent victims we lost ten years ago - remind us that despite any differences of race or ethnicity, background or belief, we are all bound together by the common hope that we can make the world a better place for this and future generations. That must be the legacy of those we have lost.

Those who attacked us on 9/11 wanted to drive a wedge between the United States and the world. They failed. On this 10th anniversary, we are united with our friends and partners in remembering all those we have lost in this struggle. In their memory, we reaffirm the spirit of partnership and mutual respect that we need to realize a world where all people live in dignity, freedom and peace.

The US is not and never will be at war with Islam: Barack Obama - The Times of India

"The US is not and never will be at war with Islam"

Military Setup over (Kuwait, Emirates and Saudia)
Iraq
Iran
Afghanistan
Pakistan

all are non muslim nations

Exactly Obama is right!

"Only terrorist countries are belongs to muslim. Israel, India and Europe nations are extremely innocent" awww how sad!

They killed one million muslims in IRAQ based on this theory that IRAQ had Bio-Chemical Weapons, they attacked on Afghanistan against Talibans wherease their enemy was Al-Qaida....they attacked on Libya, setup 6 bases in Kuwait (5 years before there was 2) setup bases in Qatar, UAE, Saudia....Not sloving the issues of Kashmir and Phalistine coz they are muslims.....and still they are not against war against Islam........................Joke of the century. :hitwall: :hitwall: :hitwall:

Why is Obama making such statements ? Almost like he is "defending" his position before the Radicals and Taliban clerics :hitwall: The weakest U.S president that we have seen in many years

Action speaks louder than words. The Americans, in the name of world peace, are on the brink of financial collapse because of the actions of their leaders trying to be the "world police". Its a pathetic statement made by a weak president. Their blind loyalty towards zionism has been the root cause of the instability in the middle east. The Americans,if they wanted to could have resolved the Palestinians issue years ago.
Dont they feel ashamed at what they have done in Iraq? The whole ethos behind the invasion was "weapons of mass destruction". There wasnt any. They lied. How many more muslims are they going to butcher?
The hatred for American policy is clear for all to see all over the world.

Islam is the current "enemy" of the US/West...They always need some "enemy" ..After the fall of Soviet Union, they chose Islam to play that role.Their media do viscous propaganda against the "enemy" and then after a decade or two..things start cooling down and then they shift to another "enemy" ...The knowledge of Americans about Islam is same as my knowledge of nuclear physics ...

Some Americans are sooooooooo effin stupid that they think "Muslims build mosques only to show their victory" or "Building mosque mean Shari'a Law" ..Credit goes to their media specially Fox News

Oh and the boogy man..Shari'a law ...Heck ! even I,a Muslim, don't know much about the Sharia law.One guy I know actually took formal classes in Islamic law.He decided to study Islam after terry jones controversy..

According to him : Most of the Islamic/Shari'a law is already in our constitution in the form of common law

I'm just quoting what he said.Personally,I've never taken any law class let alone "Islamic" law class :smokin:

The number of muslims killed by fellow muslims is far higher than those killed by U.S.A. Take any example: Libya, Somalia, Syria, Iraq under Saddam, Pakistan, Egypt etc. etc. everywhere it is the muslims fighting each other.

How would you react if the News read,

The US is at war with Islam: Barack Obama

They are conditioned to accept this as a correct news. They will say this is what we are saying all along and this is the truth

Obama and the policy is to give an impression that that the policy is not against all nations and then take each military power one by one , and keep building basis

Well , why the F was he given the Nobel Peace Prize? Just because he said ALOT of things in his election campaign?

US /Nato is like this big bully that attacks a group of children in yard and says look I will not hurt you but i will hurt this one kid if you all stay back and watch .....

Then he beats up the weakest kid, then it moves to the next kid and repeats the same thing again....

But all the kids don't realize if they all fist up and punch the bully in face he will go home and learn his lesson

That is what is happening all around the world an act of bullying but at national level and the stealing commodity is Oil and Government contracts

After a sore defeat, it is better not.

And hypocritical liar Obama needs to STFU!

and you guys missed the golden headline..

US President Barack Obama writes exclusively for TOI:

Offcourse, he is trying to please selected years in a country where IQ and common sense both run very low.

In US individuals are at war with Muslims... what is stated by President Obama does not go along with the situation on ground.

Well , I think the Nobel price was awarded for his soft smooth talk but in end what we found was he still disliked Muslim nations as he does not even likes to be associated as a muslim as it hurts his polictical back ground how can such a leader be called as one who can build bridges

Also when he tried to speak for Palestine jewish financial giants pulled the cash from US economy forcing him to focus on economy and forget about Palestine/Israel issue

Perhaps in a smooth tongue talk , in his own words, US is not at war with Islam but it is at war to control commodities and oil so it needs to be at war with Islam by proxy. And that proxy is called a group which US invented in 80's and then it uses its name brand to promote national goals and agendas , but no US is generally not at war with Islam

That Bush for two terms and now Obama, possibly for just one term, continue to mouth the words, without conviction, suggests that if there were a second term for him, he would be repeating the same line, with as much conviction, and be received with with the same skepticism and disdain.
