Greece is getting Tanks, because it needs them, and because the US is offering them at a very low price, practically for free.

Okay. An armored force against what exactly? Did Greece and Turkey ever exchange any military hostilities with one another recently? Or any outstanding political issues? Sorry, since I am not an expert in the field

It is a great deal from the Americans nonetheless. Although the M1 has drawbacks compared to the Leopard 2.

Countries like Belgium don't even operate tanks. The Netherlands are phasing their Leopard 2s out. The EU is a great and a peaceful place, despite the current economic problems it faces.

Being a South Asian (not exactly a peaceful place), I do envy your part of the world

Greece is under a permanent 'casus belli' from Turkey over Greece's right to expand territorial waters to 12 miles under the international law of the seas.
