How possibly one can compare, compete a city of say 1 million with a huge city of 25 million plus. Futile comparison and survey, indices too.

15-18 cities of the size of Adelaide can be placed in Karachi and still there would have been enough space.

Tokyo a huge city in the top rank is commendable, not easy to manage and make it most liveable such a huge Metro city.

I would like to dilate upon the point you just mentioned i.e. the size of the city / town. Dr Iqbal met Benito Mussolini on his way back to India after finishing his doctorate. Benito asked Dr. Allama Iqbal that what does Islam suggest about town planning and Dr Iqbal replied that in Islam if the population of a town/city reaches a certain limit then build new towns and do not let the city keep growing.

And since we Muslims especially Pakistanis have gone astray from the true teachings so we let our cities grow like ugly tumours that become incurable. The long term and ultimate solution for Karachi, Lahore and all other large cities that are larger than 1 million in population is to cap it right there...No new construction be allowed especially the housing societies. Extra populations to be skimmed off into new cities.

Agree fully to your citation of Allama Iqbal...also there is a Hadith about it too, don't make your city too big and bursting at it seams...

Karachi and Dhaka actually deserve to be in the least liveable list due to the gross mismanagement and government paralysis in establishing good governing institutions in these cities.

I’m also happy that not a single Indian city is in this list.

Lol!!!

The study said that Asian cities overall have scored slightly below the global average while three Asian cities -- Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea (135th), Pakistan's Karachi (136th) and Bangladesh's Dhaka (138th) -- are among the ten least liveable globally.

NEW DELHI:

New Delhi has dropped by six places to rank 118th on a list of the world's most liveable cities due to increase in cases of petty crime and poor air quality, an annual survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit said today.

keep the lol to yourself, New Delhi is included in the most liveable list but at 118 rank and Karachi is in the least liveable rank.

Chinese cities are also quite frequent in the most polluted cities list. So don’t mix the topics.

Brain dead due to the high pollution, Delhi is in the list of most unlivable cities but not in top 10....Karachi points are 136 and rank in top 10, Delhi points are 118 and must be in top ranks too. Higher the points lesser the liveability...

Look at the bold parts.

Karachi - least liveable list
New Delhi - most liveable list

There is only one list: The Global Liveability Index.
There are 140 cities ranked on this list.
From this list they select the top 10 cities to make a top 10 of 'most liveable cities' and they also select the bottom 10 cities and make a top 10 of 'least liveable cities'.

The ranking of New Delhi, Karachi and Dhaka are:

118. New Delhi
136. Karachi
138. Dhaka

The Indian media refers to the list as a list of 'most liveable' cities while the Pakistani media uses 'least liveable'.

The Pakistani media is correct in using 'least liveable' to describe Karachi, especially since Karachi is in the top 10 of least liveable cities.

But the Indian media is trying to give the low ranking of New Delhi a positive spin by saying that it is on an list of 'most liveable' cities. That is not correct. New Delhi is featured on the 'The Global Liveability Index'.
And although it is not in the top 10 of least liveable cities, it is still ranked low on the list.

Very good and concise explanation...

The ranking of New Delhi, Karachi and Dhaka are:

118. New Delhi
136. Karachi
138. Dhaka

So New Delhi is a few notches up to Karachi and Dhaka...at 118 place is its rank in the most liveable...way down to be regarded as most liveable city.
